Most amazing thing about recent run

I hope I’m not jinxing a no-hitter here, but I am really surprised the refs seem to have let up on the BS penalty flags since early season. A PI here or an offensive hold there could have made some of those games very different. Likewise, if the refs would have called the GB and Vegas games this way the Saints would be undefeated.

Probably because they don't want to take their masks off to call the penalty.

There were plenty of flags against us late in the game to get them in scoring position.

Yeah there were. But Ill take those late make up calls over the back breakers the refs normally throw the team’s way any day.

I think it’s amazing how we have continued to win throughout all the injuries. At one point we had all three starting receivers, both Cb’s out with a really banged up offensive line. We lost our future HOF receiver for half the season and our HOF Qb for at least 3-1/2 games yet we continue to win.
The flags are a result of getting the PI penalties cleaned up early in the year to avoid getting a reputation for them.
Plus the Goodell wants the Saints to win enough games to see a Brady/Brees playoff match.

To me the most amazing thing in recent weeks is no defense has been able to handle the special QB Power right play that Payton has designed. We've been able to call it almost at will for weeks now and get great yards. I'm surprised other teams aren't copying it.

Maybe we're playing cleaner. There's definitely been an improvement in all other phases since early in the season.

That is a good point. But I remember calls in both the Raiders and Pac games where the calls were just....wrong. In those 2 games Saints were on the short end of the penalty stick 18-5 (9-3 first down difference). Now, I have no doubt the D has tightened up their play, but refs have never had a problem with flagging the Saints on clean plays and not flagging other teams (Rams game). I still am very surprised that they haven’t taken the opportunity to stick it to Payton during this win streak.

This year I hope we don't leave anything to chance. Keep your foot on the gas.

Health will be key. You're seeing what is possible when the entire defense is healthy.

I just don't see Godhell letting us back in to the Super bowl. We surprised and embarrassed the favored Peyton Manning led Colts the last time around. His ego and hatred for the Saints will have us at the receiving end of bad calls when the refs get the message from upstairs that they've got to stop us. I'm just not sold on Godhell going all in for viewer ratings rather than revenge.

Re: Most amazing thing about recent run

I’ll bring this thread back because I think it’s important. Obviously there are many reasons the Saint struggled to put this game away even though they were clearly the better team. Such an obvious disadvantage in penalties is one. Now, looking back on these past games, maybe going back to Green Bay- this 10 penalty game sticks out. So, I’m wondering/asking again about the amazement I have about the refs letting the team play the game. Was this last game really so bad that the penalty difference was warranted..or was it BS ? Honest thoughts wanted.

For me it is not just penalties, but replay, too. In yesterday’s game, they reviewed a long catch by Gage (I think) and ruled it a catch. I thought it was pretty clear that the ball was loose before it hit the ground a certainly loose after and was stunned by the review. I am one, who tries to be unbiased when looking at the replays for these types of things and I was sure it was incomplete, though I knew there was a good chance the refs would disagree.

When this sort of stuff goes on in a game, I have to wonder if they are just trying to help the other team out a bit. Sure seems like it sometimes.

That was a case where there wasn't enough to overturn the play obviously. I agree with your take, but understand the decision.

The thing that I really noticed was the lack of calls on Atl. I swear I noticed at least three clear holds against Hendrickson alone that were not called. From the first punt received that had a hold called that made the first drive start on the 14 on, it was clear the refs were going to make it an uphill battle all day.

I feel the same way. I didn't watch the game on a big screen tv so I can't be sure but that PI call on Lattimore during the Falcons TD drive sure seemed contrived.

I had several local Pats fans here text me saying they thought it was BS. They had no skin in the game.

Consistent play from the stars and leaders. Important plays and big games from the supporting cast. Truly improved coaching from week to week and adjustments during games. It's all there. Again. Gotta get past the refs and Mahomes. It has happened against the odds and greatness. Ask Peyton.

The announcers even said they didn't see any foul on the play.

It’s all BS in this game today, we talked about this years ago when the NFL wants to keep games competitive tru - out they can’t have total blowouts anymore. people will gradually turn there sets off or find another game to watch, which won’t sell advertising or there overpriced products.

You have every major network. Best investigative reporters in the world that can go on main stream TV all over the world and interview the most powerful people in the world and contradict anything the say , do , fart, play golf , play with another mans women . But you can’t talk to an NFL official , get it now people

Re: Most amazing thing about recent run

The Networks need close games so that people don't tune out. Key the refs to start throwing flags on blatantly false calls. Is it a big market team like Dallas or NE? Then it's a different story because we want blow outs from big market teams so that the talking heads don't get their panties in a wad after a bad pregame prediction.

Does anybody remember when football was a sport before it turned to entertainment and was truly a grid iron game? The times have changed . Football=Pro Wrestling. WWE or WWF....whatever! They are all predetermined outcomes. :brood:

One of the first posts I Made on the site. Looks like I can stop being amazed as the refs are clearly back to giving the Saints the business with the calls/no calls.
