Kwon Alexander

Kwon Alexander has been a wonderful addition to the Saints defense. I had the pleasure of being in the Dome for the epic beat down of the Falcons, and it was a joy to watch! In person, you can really see how fast he is to diagnose and play the ball. Many plays won't result in a stat line for him, but his pursuit and filling gaps forces runners to try to get outside and eventually out of bounds or into another tackler. I've been banging the drum for better LB through the draft or FA for so long, it's satisfying to see it on the field. DD could only do so much on his own, I think he even seems energized by Kwon.

:bng: Championship! :bng:

Re: Kwon Alexander

Per SI ...

"Since Alexander's insertion into the starting lineup over Alex Anzalone, the players have combined for 22 tackles, 1 sack, 1 fumble recovery, 2 passes defended, 2 quarterback hits, and 1 thrown for a loss in those two games".

In the words of Kwon ... "Legendary".

Re: Kwon Alexander

Alexander certainly "pops" on the field. Imagine if we had one more good LB'er to team up with him and Davis. Baun may be it, but he hasn't had enough playing time to transition effectively just yet. After Jenkins went out I did see Thor make a play yesterday. It was a nice change.

The best part is he doesn’t get fooled by misdirection.

Re: Kwon Alexander

One thing our defense has missed, an outside backer with speed.

Kwon not only stands out, he's freed up Demario also to make more plays. If that was ever possible.

So far Kwon has been a great addition, the only thing I am concerned about is his history of missed tackles.

I once read that players that have enough speed to get to points of potential tackles are basically cursed by having more missed than others. Other players can't even get close, yet those faster players often excel to get their hands on the player, but not enough to wrap them up. Missed tackles is one of the most inaccurate stats available.

I can see some truth to that, the good thing about Kwon and probably CJGJ for that matter, is that even if they don't make the tackle they tend to disrupt the play that much that their colleagues soon arrive to assist lol

Re: Kwon Alexander

CJGJ is just like an outside LB in the 4-2-5 we play. Our DT don’t get enough credit for keeping those guys clean to also make the plays they are making.

If our defense can stay healthy for the rest of the season we really have a great chance. I’m really looking forward to the match up with KC as that will be a great measurement of where we are as a team.

I can name someone who's been pounding the table for YEARS to get a speedy outside backer...

I would think more folks would comment on quon , it’s night and day to Thor , if he stays heathy we have a shot at greatness

Yep. Kwon is all about "contact and collision". Sideline to sideline assassin who arrives with bad intentions. IMO that's the definition of a linebacker. Walk into my space ... pay the price.

Nothing against Thor, but he simply wasn't doing that. Gotta believe in the back of his mind, he's thinking about that repaired shoulder on every tackle. But hey, Saints scouts still took a chance based on his past medicals.

But I agree on Kwon , when healthy he's a beast. The kid loves the game of football.

Re: Kwon Alexander

When Kwon came here Davis immediately started playing faster. He's had the same impact on the rest of the defense as well. I believe that Davis plays faster with him because he feels like Kwon will lock down his gap assignment and he doesn't have to slow down to check all the gaps. These two feed off each other and that energy is now flowing into the entire defense. They are all playing faster and there are fewer blown assignments.

The guy is playing great. If he stays healthy maybe on of the best mid season trades for the team. Best part is he’s fit in with the team already, dancing and being a great team player

Re: Kwon Alexander

To be fair Davis has been ballin' ever since he joined the Saints.

Alexander does seem a better fit than Anzalone and it has made Alex expendable after the season.

Alexander's contract is a bad one going forward for 2021 and 2022, and I'm not sure the Saints can afford it.

Re: Kwon Alexander

We filled an obvious hole at linebacker and our whole defense got better. Who would have thunk it. Love Kwon and hopefully he can stay healthy. We weren't working with a full deck of cards(front office fault) and now we are.

Re: Kwon Alexander

2 years and running, I was hoping we got another legit dawg at LB.

The Saints typically play only 2 LBs' so we were in need of another sideline to sideline bully WITH instincts. As we've seen, Kwon is allowing Demario to do other things. Like Rez stated in another post … "we just got faster at linebacker".

Speed is the name of the game.

This move to acquire Kwon could get us where we want to be in late Jan.

Yep. It’s why San Fran let him go because they would cut bait on him as soon as the season was over. So why not get something for him now , well it worked better for us anyway.

Re: Kwon Alexander

Critics hound him for "missed tackles" but the guy arrives in time to create at the very least a hesitation from his man. IF Kwon misses the tackle, there's another Saint right on him.

Everything you wrote is 100% correct. He was apparently the missing link on defense. He's my newest favorite "dawg!"

This is what opposing offenses look like when he's playing.
