Saints rewatch: Drew Brees wasn't sharp, but he didn't get much help; Trey Hendrickson shines | Luke Johnson

Good article, I am in complete agreement, 100% complete agreement with points 4, 8, and 9. I disagree with point #3 though. I see it as a 50/50 chance, I just don’t believe it is “deserved”, and Depends on playoff performance by his defenses over the next couple, maybe few years.

I will always believe that Brees should have come back against Minnesota; at least with Taysom the Chiefs defense would have had to be aware of Taysom running and the long ball.

And if Brees stinks again this week? Does his farewell season reward of playing HAVE to include taking the team down with him?

Check down or throw it away Brees will return in full force this week. Bad half? Ummm, srsly, we’re still rolling with the “shaking off the rust” propaganda? Nah, not buying it. KC knew how to frustrate DB#9, which is to completely eliminate the check down and run game. That game was always a loss bc our offense didn’t like getting out of its’ comfort zone, which is the short left, short right check down game. I remember DB#9’s game from last year after missing five games due to thumb surgery very clearly, the thrashing of Arizona 31-9 (iirc), 34 of 43 with 373 yards, 3 TD’s (one interception) in a game in which Teddy Two Gloves finished up bc Brees didn’t need to be out there anymore.

One of the best QB's of all time doesn't just suck all of a sudden. His abilities may have diminished but I'd still prefer him back there for the Saints than a majority of the starting QB's around the league. That includes Taysom Hill who's a great football player but no where near the QB that Brees is. |

Special teams ...
C Roberson (Philly) and Anzalone (KC) had opportunities. Good special teams play in post season WILL BECOME CRITICAL for us. Hopefully we get a HEALTHY Fowler, Harris & Callaway at the start of playoffs. Deonte Harris is probably the most important player in this bunch. He consistently gives us a short field to work with. |
