What's Wrong With Lutz

I could see it in his eyes before he missed the kick. He just doesnt have that steely look like he used to have. I know 50 yds isn't a gimme, but he used to hit those regularly.

Mechanically it looked good, I think he just lifted his head during the shot (like golf) and didn't get the follow through. He's usually money from that right hash. I think he'll get it fixed.

It’s got to be an injury. The Saints should be looking at kickers this week.

There’s no way the team would keep trudging him out there hurt...now, he may be mentally fouled up because he got hurt awhile back. But don’t believe he is hurt, bad excuse. I think he’s just damaged goods.....

I think he's hurt. He hit 90% of his kicks, then he went to ****. He's hurt.

Lutsz got hurt in the week 13 game against Atlanta.

When kickers minds start to get to them they fall off and begin missing kicks. Some of them bounce back, but many of them just fall off. Lutz might be falling off. One would be hard pressed to find a replacement this late though.

Yep. Pretty much have to ride this thing out and hope he doesn't miss one that leads to tournament elimination...

Plus, there's the added bonus that if what injury ails him heals and he comes back and hits a big one - then his confidence will surge knowing his team had his back during a rough patch...

He doesn't look confident, I agree. I also don't think he is hurt. He's booming the kickoffs just fine. Hartley missed that one game winning short kick against Atlanta and went off the rails. Get angry Lutz and make that ball your B!

I think he's hurt. Even Deuce mentioned it on the radio yesterday.

Bad timing for sure. Anyone else hate the call? I though we should have gone for it in that circumstance.

If he is hurt to the extent it's effecting his kicks you sign another kicker. He clearly lacks confidence right now

You might sign another kicker. I am in the playoffs, have 4 M in cap space and last week all my RBs were gone due to COVID, I am saving that cap space in case a position I actually need gets blanked by COVID. phuck a kicker

Letting it fly on a kickoff and kicking for accuracy up and over a rushing defensive line are two different animals...

While I'd normally agree with you in signing one to the practice squad in leaving nothing to chance, I'd be worried at this stage with f'ing with the team chemistry, psyche as his teammates are still behind him...

We've got at least a couple of kickers on speed dial if needed. Don't forget we had Chandler Catanzaro and Blair Walsh in for tryouts last week. Lutz' recent struggles aside, we are always just a COVID close contact away from having no kicker at all. It wouldn't surprise me if the Saints were daily testing them both so they can immediately clear the protocols. You can't add a player to the roster without two negative tests.

Edit: I just read that we also brought Walsh back in on Saturday for another visit.

Re: What's Wrong With Lutz

Just as I thought ...

Saints sign former Vikings K Blair Walsh to their practice squad

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, New Orleans will sign former Minnesota kicker Blair Walsh to its practice squad.

“Never know when a COVID issue might arise during the playoffs, so they’ll keep Walsh in testing protocols as a contingency plan,” Pelissero said on Twitter.

Walsh last appeared in the playoffs for the Vikings in the 2015 season. I don’t think I have to tell Vikings fans what happened, but just in case: He went 3-4 on field goals, missing the would-be game-winner from 27 yards away, giving the Seahawks the 10-9 win.

Some of the Vikings’ playoff woes are on account of crucial missed kicks and Walsh contributed to that. The Saints also had a hand in knocking out the Vikings in the 2009 NFC Championship game.

Sure, the Vikings have gotten revenge with the Minneapolis Miracle and the overtime victory in 2019, but I’m sure Minnesota fans wouldn’t mind if Walsh missed some important kicks for New Orleans.

Re: What's Wrong With Lutz

Justin Tucker missed a kick similar to Lutz's yesterday from the right hash. Neither misses were total shanks, just not quite guided right. I think Lutz will shake it off and be fine.

You would be agreeing with the other fellow. I wouldn't sign a kicker now for the reasons I stated as well as yours. Id rather see Peat with a square toe shoe like we used in high school kicking straight on.

No one is upset about that kick, Lutz has made only 4 of his last 9 FG attempts.

Re: What's Wrong With Lutz

hopefully Walsh stays on the PS...but on the other side, maybe he has gotten all the misses out of his system.

Re: What's Wrong With Lutz

A dodgy FG kicker can lose you the game.

I think it is more an injury that is causing Lutz to mess up. More so that he has a psychological problem.

It is PROFESSIONAL football, and the Sainst need to work out what is best for the organisation

There is the evidence that convinced me 100%. My eyes have been telling me he was hurt. Now, we need him to heal quickly. If it's an injury then I don't see Sean trotting him out for a long distance kick. Maybe go for it on fourth down even more than we do now. I'm certainly not giving up on the best kicker since the great Morton Anderson.
