Receiving Core

All of a sudden, something that we struggled with in earlier weeks, we now have an abundance of.

Getting Michael Thomas back was great and he looks like he's running with that known intensity, my main reason for this thread though - Deonte Harris.

What a weapon he's turning out to be, not only running the speed out, his route tree is developing and he is electric after the catch.

I enjoyed seeing Drew not zoning in on one receiver, that's what killed us in the past years when teams took Thomas and Kamara away.

One question though, why is Lil-Jordan Humphrey getting more passing snaps than Callaway?
Marquez proved when guys were injured that he was reliable and a very good player, yet he barely saw the field from what I recall yesterday?

Core - the central, innermost, or most essential part of anything.

First and foremost , Deontae Harris is a must in this offense I stressed this last season and the beginning of this season it’s and old saying about keeping up with the Jones well we have to keep up with the chiefs.a short scat back wr, is what’s trending in nfl. There hard to cover, keep track of. That and a big scary athletic TE, and Calloway he tweaked something last week but returned to finish that game , so it maybe something to do with that,

As much as I love Taysom, Mac Jones would be perfect with this group. :)

Deonte Harris is turning out to be what we hoped Tommy Lee would be. His route running and awareness is 100%

Re: Receiving Core

Harris is turning into a weapon. We have really coached up his route running. He looked like our Hollywood Brown yesterday.

I got a rush watching Lil Jordan on his catch. That was his calling card with the Longhorns - get him in space in the slot or flat on a short route and pick up lots of YAC.

Re: Receiving Core

Give Brees a little time and clean pocket he can make anyone with NFL level talent look like a pro bowler. And we have talent in the receiver group ... deep talent.

Harris is really developing in to force to deal with just worried about his durability. He not only plays really fast but hard play hard and does not avoid taking on the guy in his way when he has too.

Surprised we didn’t see Calloway more this past week ... Think he’s going to be really really good.

Everything I want to say about Harris has been said many times about Sproles while he was here.

Chase Daniel was free agent cut by Washington. None of the QB's Payton had drafted panned out.

I was about to bring this up. I'd like to see him in the backfield with Murray or Kamara before the snap a few times during the game. Maybe go in motion pre-snap, maybe stay in the back field.

I'm a Callaway fan as well. I think he has some sort of injury keeping him off the field Sunday.

Give Bruce (fits-ll) Arians and Todd Bowles try to figure another weapon out.

Highly doubtful he falls anywhere near us

Harris is a weapon but playing more snaps increases chance of sustaining an injury. Normally I'm fine with that but we're back in the playoffs and I'd rather have him healthy for the return game. Our receiving core is healthy for the first time. Thomas, Sanders, Callaway and even Lil Jordan are solid. Cook seems to be showing up lately and Trautman is going to be stud. Overall that's respectable targets for Drew.

Where is Smith? Calloway pass him up?

Matchups.

Deonte was featured vs Chicago. This week? … Marquez could be more involved vs Tampa. It could be a good thing we didn't see him much last week. Same could be said for Ty Montgomery (inactive).

I'm expecting Sanders to have a big game on Sunday.

Re: Receiving Core

Saints have had great line play on both sides of the ball this year. And, while some individual play calls have been very questionable, they have been prepared with a good game plan both for the off and deff (and made game adjustments) in most games this year. That has allowed a good combo of
Run and pass with different pieces at all positions.

Smith (ankle) could be ready to return for the NFC divisional round, per teammate Deonte Harris, Katherine Terrell of The Athletic reports.

Smith has been on IR since Week 15. The receiver will need to be removed from IR in order to suit up, but it wouldn't be surprising to see Smith rejoin his teammates in practice this week in light of Harris' comments after the team's win over the Bears in the wild-card round. More light on Smith's status should be shed once the Saints begin their upcoming week of practice

Honestly, the offense is better without Smith. He's a good run blocker but he attempts to catch everything with his stomach and it stalls drives when he drops the easy passes.

IDK Diz, I feel differently. It's the playoffs. All hands on deck. Blocking, pass catching, whatever. 3quan is a damn good blocker who has opened up a lot of running lanes for AK.

Brees in rhythm with another guy he believes in … lagniappe.

I hope he can return in some capacity this week.

Smith hasn't been activated from IR ... yet. He's eligible this week and Harris hinted that Smith will be back.

He is a very good blocker but pound for pound, Callaway has my vote instead of Smith. Very effective blocker and actually a threat in the passing game lol

He's really looked good, but his book of work is very limited so far. Hopefully he keeps it up.
