A Tragic Day in American History
NASA knew not to launch. That's the saddest thing about it. They had known for almost 10 years and yet they caved in to external pressure.
I suppose you can say, you know, it's a dangerous occupation. You can say you have to be good with the risk. And as with anything, sometimes you have to break your own rules so as to appease other people...
Or do you?
I appreciate everyone's comments. This one will always be near and dear to me.Posted 01-30-2012 at 11:04 AM by saintfan

A Tragic Day in American History
I took it for granted that the Space Shuttle would take off and come back because it always had before. Actually didn't hear about the explosion until after, was off somewhere doing 'military' stuff. I remember thinking, "O-rings?". I agree, it takes a special kind of person to go through that training and then strap on a suit to blast off into outer space. Thanks for the remind, saintfan.Posted 01-29-2012 at 08:10 PM by SloMotion

A Tragic Day in American History
It's a sad, sad story and I've also read or heard they were alive for a few minutes before impact, that the explosion itself probably did not kill them.
I will remember this. I'll never forget where I was that day....Posted 01-29-2012 at 03:15 PM by Halo

SuperBowl XLVI; An obligatory blog
Yeah, Gronkowski ... ouch! I've just been hearing he had some sort of injury and was hoping the extra week off would give him time to heal up. High ankle sprain? Could take him 2 weeks, could take him a month or longer. That's not good for the Pats.Quote:

New England's TE has a high ankle sprain? Sure I heard that somewhere this week. That's big.
I think the "G" men win again.Posted 01-28-2012 at 01:09 PM by saintfan

The Giants are definitely the 'hot' team right now, and this 'Eli' is better then 2007 'Eli' ... but IDK, the Pats have a better running game then they did in 2007, they got Gronkowski, Hernandez & Walker ... and they got Brady. Yeah, the defense is lacking somewhat, but I think Brady puts up more points on New York then Eli can put up on New England.

Pats vs. Giants matchup
Word on the street is, the Pats don't match up well with the Giants. Didn't in 2007, less so this year. The Giants are a totally different team then the team the Saints killed in week 12. Will be an interesting Superbowl this year.Quote:
I couldn't get into the Superbowl last year.... it was too boring....just sayin.Posted 01-27-2012 at 06:47 PM by Halo

SuperBowl XLVI; An obligatory blog
Always respected Peyton/Eli, they come from good 'football stock', after all. Too, I always felt the hype/attention they received was partially in reward to Archie for all the years he remained loyal to the Saints, and deservedly so. The Manning's are like football's "Kennedy's" without Chappaquiddick and stuff.
And then you debate, "who's better? Peyton or Eli/". I used to think Peyton because I thought Eli had better teams around him, but this year, not so much. But would the Giants disintegrate like the Colts did without Peyton if Eli was lost? I don't think so, but Eli did get New York to the SuperBowl ... and it was Eli this time. It makes for great conversation, that's for sure. Either way, I know their daddy sure is proud.
But, the NFL is a cruel mistress ... and fickle ... as much as I like Eli and will be eternally grateful to him for knocking the 49'ers out of the playoffs, he has now outlived his usefulness and I have to go with Brady in this one, lol!Posted 01-27-2012 at 07:07 AM by SloMotion

SuperBowl XLVI; An obligatory blog
Even with a Superbowl win under his belt, multiple 4000 yard passing seasons, and a Manning last name... this year was the year Eli Manning finally arrived. Their offense has been riddled with inconsistencies and injuries all year... and he carried this team on his shoulders into the playoffs. He no longer has to walk behind Peyton's legacy, but now alongside it.
Now as much as I like him, Bilichick and Brady all the way! I've always been a closet Patriot fan even back to the Drew Bledsoe days. My first football memorabilia was an old school red NE worn out tee shirt. As I wish the Giants good luck, let's take it home Pats.Posted 01-26-2012 at 04:37 PM by papz

Both brothers are workhorses in the NFL if you ask me. Payton Manning has definitely gotten "THE HYPE" in the league. Eli has long been running a solid offense with sometimes lesser receivers. YES Eli's stock in the "HYPE" market will rise.Quote:Brady/Manning, the 'other' Manning ... soon to be 'the' Manning ... if he wins this one, he eclipses his brother ... yes/no?Posted 01-26-2012 at 02:11 PM by Halo

Reflection comes with lots of free time
3 slices bacon
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 cup onion
1/2 cup celery
1/2 cup green onion , chopped
1 1/2 cups shrimp stock
1 (15 1/4 ounce) can corn , drained
1 (14 3/4 ounce) can creamed corn
1 large potato , diced and cooked
1 lb crawfish tail , cooked and peeled
1/2-1 lb shrimp , cooked and shelled (optional)
2 cups heavy whipping cream
1 teaspoon creole seasoning
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon butter
1/8 teaspoon cayenne
fresh parsley
Directions:
1Cook the bacon in a frying pan; drain on paper towels and crumble when cooled slightly. 2Put the bacon grease in a dutch oven. 3Add in the butter, onions, celery and green onion; saute until soft. 4Add the shrimp stock, corn and potatoes. 5Bring to a boil and then simmer until the potatoes are tender. 6Add in the crawfish (and shrimp is using). 7Simmer until heated through. 8Add in the whipping cream and seasonings. 9Simmer about 10 minutes for the flavors to meld. 10Just before you get ready to serve, add in the butter, cayenne and parsley. 11Ladle into bowls and sprinkle each serving with the crumbled bacon.
Copy and paste to a word document and it will be good, yeah!Posted 01-24-2012 at 07:55 AM by SapperSaint

I think Jeff Blake brought us through the season. Aaron Brooks was cleanup. When Blake returned to service the next season, he wasn't even given a chance to return as the starter.Quote:
Jim Haslett was a fool.... I digress.
I too want that recipe for Crawfish Chowder! Sounds delish!!!

Back on topic... things are so much better with this organization since Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis run things. Offseason is actually an exciting adventure as opposed to "WTF ARE THEY DOING!!"Posted 01-23-2012 at 05:35 PM by Halo

Good Blog JimmyB!
You are not alone in your feelings. While I feel like you do; I make myself remember how good of a team we have now. Pre 2006; I don't have to wonder "If" we are going to have a good team this year. Let me get something off my chest... I HATE LOSING (Period). With that said; this Saints team no longer makes me wonder "If" we are going to have a good year. I know we are. The only "IF" now; is, do I cook Crawfish Chowder or Red Beans "IF" we go to the Super Bowl this year. For me, that's a good "IF" to ponder every year.Posted 01-23-2012 at 03:26 PM by SapperSaint
