I hate it for the team, but at least they did the right thing.

He has thrown away a great college career and maybe even a Heisman. I really hope kids out there see what this guy has done to himself; just because he wanted to smoke dope.

And no, I don't want to hear how pot is harmless either. It just cost another kid his chance to be forever know as a great college football player.

I remember something similar happening with Cecil Collins who went to my high school. Couldn't walk the line, ended up at McNeese. Jimmy Johnson later gave him a gift tryout with the Dolphins and he effed that up too. Went to jail.

One of the most talented RBs I've ever seen. Sad.

Agreed. Being a scholar athlete is a privileged, not a rite or something the university is required to give.

He has a FULL PAID FOR Scholarship. I believe LSU gave him every possible chance to fix whatever his problem was.

Kudos to LSU and coach Miles for doing the right thing. And LSU has been ultra classy about this.

Wish all the best to Tyran... he did a stupid thing that will cost him MONEY but I hope he figures it out. He just won't be able to figure it out at LSU.

That's the thing... it's done on everyone 10 days before camp starts every year from what I've read. I don't believe it was random... he was just being stupid.

ESPN's Joe Schad reported that junior DB Tyrann Mathieu has expressed interest in staying at LSU during the 2012 season and attempt to return to the program in 2013.

In this scenario, Mathieu would attend classes this year and hope to earn his spot back on the LSU football roster next season. According to Schad, "the possibility of future reinstatement would have to be approved at many levels, including university administration and head coach Les Miles, and it is being discussed." Mathieu has been described as "heartbroken" and "grieving" and is reportedly interested in changing his character. The junior did visit Valdosta State over the weekend.

Updating a previous item, a source close to Jim Kleinpeter of The Times Picayune disputes a report that junior DB Tyrann Mathieu is considering returning to LSU in 2013 after sitting out the 2012 season.

The source said remaining at LSU "wouldn't be happening" and that McNeese State, which Mathieu visited on Friday, is presently the only option for a transfer. The same report stated that Mathieu will likely make a decision on transferring by Wednesday. If he remained at LSU, Mathieu would have to pay his own way since his dismissal from the football team voided his scholarship.

Sounds like LSU said he's permanently off the football team.
It's a written rule for the school. He was busted with drugs in his system and he cannot return to any university sports program.
