Official Cigar Thread - whatcha smokin'?

I'm not an everyday smoker, but I'll smoke a few during the month. I like cigars that are mild/medium. I don't like any that have a strong spice to them.

The best cigar I've ever smoked was given to me by a friend - it was a genuine cuban - Habana Cohiba Exelcior - it was mild/medium and so smooth. If I ever find any, I'm gonna buy a couple boxes.

That being said here are my favorite domestic smokes:

1) Rocky Patel Vintage 1990
2) Ashton Aged Maduro
3) Baccarat Churchill

All three of these are mild/medium. For the money, it's hard to beat the Baccarat. I'm always looking for new recommendations, so let's hear em!

Depends on what you're looking for for the price.

These are around $3 per stick and never disappoint.

These are nice 60 cent smokes everyday smokes.

Cu-Avana Intensus are great full body smokes that won't break the bank.

FF - Thanks for the rec. I'd rather spend a little more on a good cigar since I only smoke them every now and then, rather than buying cheap cigars for every day smokes. More important to me is the smoke itself - mild to medium with a nice even smoke and no spicy after taste. I've seen those Vegas 5's as a sampler on cigar bid.com - might have to check them out.

I smoke quite seldome but when i do I prefer a Cohiba Siglo IV. They usually come at $20-25 a piece but I'd say they are worth the money.

Cigar samplers suck. I find they are best straight out the box.
Trust me... they taste way better right out the box.

I've smoked so many over priced cigars too. If you are still smoking it when it is burning your fingers, they are a good smoke, period.

Can you get the real Cohiba anywhere in the US or would that be against the trade embargo against Cuba?

I've smoked some cheap cigars that tastes like they just rolled up some paper and put it together. But I can get a $3 Baccarat that will smoke evenly down to the nub. If I'm paying more than $7 a stick, I feel like I've spent a lot. It's really all about figuring what you like as far as taste and body are concerned, and there are some good cigars in the $3-$5 range.

No, you can't get the genuine Cohibas, but you can get cigars that were harvested in other countries (Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, etc) using Cuban seed.

I'm not convinced that cubans are any better than cigars from other countries, but I believe the embargo has definitely romanticized the value of getting a cuban cigar.

Don Lino Maduro 1989 I will be trying this one today. I've got about another 25 different kinds right now so I will let you know about each and maybe we can get a rating system going for the boys and girls of B and G

I smoke cigars occasionally. 3-4 times a year. Black and Mild is a hand rolled cigar that is inexpensive(comparitively). It has a nice after flavor and the smell won't run people off. My buddy, his girl friend and I were smoking some this past weekend on the beach at Flora-Bama.
Of course, my favorite cigar is a blunt. :beatnik:

I'm really not a cigar afficianado, but I suppose I would like to be, it's one of those man-cave things. Back when I was running over to Canada 6-7 times a week for my kid's sports, I used to buy Cubans & smoke 'em because you couldn't get 'em in the US. Not that I knew what I was smoking, just that is was a 'Cuban'. I'll have to follow the thread and get edu-macated,.
