Ameer Ismail - OLB - 6008, 232, 4.78, lbs Western Michigan

There were 327 players invited to the NFL scouting combine. Ameer Ismail of Western Michigan wasn't one of them, but he should have been. He led the NCAA in sacks (17) and tackles for losses (25{). Ismail played weakside linebacker at Western Michigan and projects as a pass-rusher in a 3-4 scheme in the NFL. He said he was surprised and disappointed not to be extended an invitation to the combine. "But I'm not going to take it personal," Ismail said in a telephone interview last week. "I feel I can compete and do well against any level of competition. My main goal now is to do well at my pro day" on March 13. The knocks on Ismail are his size (6-2, 230) and level of competition in the Mid-American Conference. But his Broncos played Florida State and Virginia this season. Ismail also lined up in the MAC against two offensive tackles who were invited to the combine and project as first-day NFL draft picks: Joe Staley of Central Michigan and Doug Free of Northern Illinois. - The Dallas Morning News
