I think all the investigations into violations by USC ( multiple sports) may have something to do with this. Pete may have decided to take off before the s&$t hit the fan.

Pete will be back in the college ranks in the next 5 years. He's a college coach just like Saban.

There may be something involved with his family. Total speculation, but if C Weis made a true comment about Pete shacking up with a coed, his wife may have made him pack up and leave town.
