So how did the Falcons look?

I didn't see the game, but I heard mixed reports. Some say Ryan looked much improved others said no. How about turner and their defense? God I want them to suck this year. Nothing would piss me off more than them winning the division.

Re: So how did the Falcons look?

At this point I am really more worried about the Carolina Panthers. Don't get me wrong, the Falcons are a major concern too. Also, don't forget that the Buccaneers should be a lot stronger than last year. In the end, I see the Panthers getting better, and will put a serious challenge in for a division title.

Their O-Line is a serious liability, no run game to speak of and the Bengals could get decent pressure...

Re: So how did the Falcons look?

... for the brief time I watched the game before I felt the uncontrollable urge to puke and possibly gouge my eyes out, they looked so-so ... part of it is, of course, the preseason, the fact it was Cincinnati and part of it is they are really average ... defensive line was jumping, 2 personal fouls (albeit the face-masking penalty was a bad call) ... it was just a very un-entertaining, unimpressive game by both teams ... I had to turn away from the game early while I still had some dignity & self-respect,.

Re: So how did the Falcons look?

I suppose Matty Lice stayed in an entire half to pad his preseason stats.. So everyone could talk about his this is his year 5 break out.

The only starting QB in the league (that I saw) play more than 2-3 possessions in a preseason game so far.

Their first team O was shut down in the red zone by the Bengals. And barly made it past the 50 in the first two possessions.

Dalton has an arm on him but he is inaccurate as hell.

Neither impressed nor worried.

Re: So how did the Falcons look?

I thought they didn't look too bad for the last game of the preseason -at least according to the komissar's 18 game regular season calendar. The defense kept up decent pressure on on Cincy (who call themselves "Who Dey") and while they gave up a couple of plays, none of them were back breakers. On offense, the run game looked weak, but Matty kept his pants clean and was able to complete quite a few passes. I hope they're decent opponents this year because that'll make us stronger come the playoffs. I only watched the first quarter or so as I could care less who gets spots or gets cut over there.

Did you miss Daltons 54 yard TD pass to AJ Green? AJ made Asante wish he wasn't on the field...

I watched some of the game I was not impressed by them at all. I think the Falcowns will always be a team we talk about because were rivials but I'm more concerns with Tampa then any other team in our division.

When you lay a ginormous GOOSE EGG in the playoffs, then you pretty much have to stay in the whole half in preseason, you need the reps whether it's with the 1's or the 2's, LOL. They won't ever say or admit it publically, but there is an "Is Matt Ryan really the long term answer?" discussion going on behind closed doors over there. With 2 years left in his contract, it's got potential to turn into one of those Aaron Brooks type things where, Mike Smith sticks by Ryan, fans go south on Ryan, time for a change, everyone can see it but the coach....or maybe Blankie just decides to blow the whole team up and start over before Ryan's contract is up. Look for the adjective "embattled head coach" to show up next to Mike Smith's name in articles pretty soon this year. If Smith goes for it on 4th and 1 and screws up again, ONE more time, against any team, the fans will turn on him in a heartbeat.

I am of the opinion they are going all out this preseason with the playbook.

That mighty mouse running back looks like major trouble...he's PT and Ivory in one. Julio looks like he's going to make people look silly all year. D looked ok, but not impressive.

I didn't get to watch much of the game, turned it on late 4th quater. 2 things stuck out to me. (1) looked like only 20 fans showed up for the game (2) the announcers said something like the Panthers had the most explosive offense last year. Crazy talk.

Slo, you may not be a diehard Saints fan (Yet), but your comments prove you are well on your way!

I thought that the Clowns were doing their best to change their offensive strategy. More passing, less reliance on running, they even tried screen passes which were unheard of last year. Their Sproles clone did look good, Turner looked fat & slow, Julio looked very good, Shatty looked average. Just my thoughts.

Re: So how did the Falcons look?

I watched the game from start to finish. Boring! The defense looked average and the offense looked just a little bit better. Julio Jones is going to be good..........not great, just good. I don't anticipate as much from them this year as last year. Matty Lice seemed to have improved his accuracy and timing.

It just how it looks to me, sometimes team open up the playbook to full view for whichever side (offense or defense) struggled last year.

For us, Spags is showing us alot of the defensive playbook this preseason in order to prepare for the regular season.

When we talk Falcons, last 2 teams that need to open the playbook is Cinci and Baltimore, their defensive schemes were vanilla.

Re: So how did the Falcons look?

They looked average considering it is only pre-season.

Re: So how did the Falcons look?

Well from what I could tell Matt Ryan slung the rock 68 times, and completed 61 of those for 320 yards.

Noodle Dick Ryan, I mean arm, strikes again

Re: So how did the Falcons look?

That said, Julio down at the play yard looks good. He is a playmaker and RW is good. They are going to be a tough two games again, and they're going to push for the divvy, but I don't think their D is all that great.

I'm very wooried about Ryans improved arm strength. It looks much stronger this season. I saw one lazer that I know for a fact travelled at least 13 yards in the air.

Re: So how did the Falcons look?

I think Matt Ryan looked like Matt Ryan. Look, besides the criticism and fun we have, he's a solid QB. He's not a top 5 QB, but in a balanced attack he's strong. His accuracy last night was his usual. I still saw him slice things up on timing patterns and quick throws.

His biggest liability last night and probably for this upcoming season is protection. I don't think their o-line was built for all the passing they're trying to do. I also saw some serious pressure coming from their right-guard position (don't know who that is). O-line looked weak especially in passing situations.

Their running game did not look like the Atlanta power attack we've seen. They used to have a chemistry that depended on balance running attack and ball control.

Julio Jones is definitely a gamer, but I also feel they are still trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. I don't think they're going to be able to handle a pitch and catch circus offense like the Patriots or Saints. They need to rebuild their o-line, even then I don't feel like that's the kind of offense Ryan works best with in the NFL.

Their defense has major disabilities with losing both middle linebackers. Saw some people open, saw their defensive backfield get burnt on a couple of occasions.

It's still preseason, but it may take them another season or two to build the type of offense they want.

Pluses: Matt Ryan, Julio Jones
Minuses: Offensive Line, sketchy defense that looked weak at times.

TheOak 08-17-2012 04:28 PM

Brees trumps Mattie Flice
Graham trumps Gonzales
Carmichael trumps their entire coaching staff
Lofting trumps who ever they put in his spot.
Sproles trumps all their RBs.

Julio didn't bother us last year and he will not bother us this year.

I still do not think they will be as good this year as last year.

I don't care at all how they look. I don't ever want to waste my time on them. Other than we can kick the .... out of them

I think we looked good. We need to give JRodgers the ball more than Turner. Turner just looked bad out there to me.

I don't feel like we're the same Falcons from last year. I think things are going to get even more competitivein the NFC South this year.

I think they saints are holding back in the preseason on both offense & defense. Trying to sucker in all teams that are watching them. This will be a different team when the whistle blows officially. Can't wait.

I don't either, they're worse talent wise that is... I don't see scheme changes making that much of a difference either

atltillidie 08-19-2012 09:26 PM

Re: So how did the Falcons look?

They do. We're a lot more agqressive on defense and offense. I feel like we're a bit more crafty on both sides of the ball, too. Our new schemes are the reason people are more impressed with our team than they were last year so far.
