Rajon Rondo Won't Play vs. Rockets Due to Wrist Injury

The New Orleans Pelicans announced point guard Rajon Rondo will miss Saturday's game against the Houston Rockets due to a sprained wrist.

New Orleans has won four straight games to move into fifth place in the Western Conference but is now shorthanded heading into a matchup against the NBA's best team.

Rondo missed the start of the season after undergoing surgery for a sports hernia before returning in mid-November.

This continues a run of problems that have kept the 32-year-old off the court in recent years. He has missed at least 10 games each season since 2010, although he has at least avoided major injuries since his knee problems from 2012-14.

The point guard has also been on the move quite a bit in recent years after spending the first eight years of his career in one place. Rondo is on his fifth team in the last four seasons, featuring up-and-down play over this stretch.

So far this season, he is averaging 8.2 points and 7.9 assists per game for New Orleans. He has produced big games in this stretch, but he also often disappears on the offensive end.

Even with his inconsistency, the Pelicans could use the four-time All-Star healthy as they try reach the playoffs for the first time in three years. In the meantime, Jrue Holiday will likely spend more time on the ball, and Ian Clark could see additional playing time.
