Legalize It? Marijuana 2012!

I'm curious to hear how folks feel about marijuana laws - whether in the medical context, softening of current possession laws, or outright legalization.

This November three states - Colorado, Oregon & Washington - will vote on some form of marijuana legalization. Two others - Arkansas & Massachusetts - will vote on medical marijuana.

I don't mind admitting I favor total legalization. I am not a drug addict, and have personally used marijuana only rarely. However, I believe it's time the legalization issue receives legitimate consideration.

What say y'all?

I say yeah.... But make sure it is included with the DUI laws... regulate it, tax it.

Also start growing using Hemp once more for diesel manufacturing, and clothes, etc...

I would like to start off this reply by saying that I have experimented with marijuana...about 50,000 times. I actually haven't partaken in it for the last two years. I am all for the legalization of marijuana and as SmashMouth said, regulate it like alcohol. The drug war is the most expensive war the US has ever been involved with and they are never going to win it. Legalizing it will lessen the amount of prisoners that get arrested for possession. It will put a huge dent in foreign drug cartels' profits and eliminate those drug dealers that only deal with marijuana. Marijuana should be treated as a medical issue instead of a crime. The main thing stopping marijuana from being legalized on a national level is the pharmaceutical companies. They have legislators in their hip pocket. They stand to lose millions even if marijuana is only legalized for medical purposes, so they are greasing the palms of our senators and representatives to make sure they vote against any legalization. Pill addiction is worse than marijuana. I will be the first to burn one if it ever does become legal, though.

I've smoked more weed than Willie Nelson. That's no joke. It never led to harder drugs. I quit smoking it the day I wanted to - years (and years) ago. I was able to function quite well before, during, and after. It's FAR (FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR!) less dangerous than alcohol.

It is my somewhat educated opinion that legalizing weed would clean up tons of crime that surrounds it.

I can remember the DARE program. My brother, coming home from freaking elementary school with propaganda that said, in no uncertain terms, that if you smoke a joint you will die. It's a farce of course.

I agree that the drug companies are largely behind the fight against legalization.

It's such a harmless drug that the fight to keep it illegal is laughable.

I usually 'just say no' on this issue because the possession laws in MI have been softened enough so it's not that serious an offense, but I suppose if it was regulated, taxed and included in the DUI laws, I could live with it.

Sure, this guy was a dealer, but he was small time. VERY small time. Life in prison? Seriously? It's a complete joke!

Never smoked weed BUT only just yesterday I made my way into the past through my nose, marginalizing everything. My childhood, which had been kept locked and preserved in the crumbling city of New Orleans, was still there, untouched. It outlasted my college days and my twenties all in one fell swoop. It was a thousand years old.

Considering, then, that childhood lasts for a thousand years, the past ten years of adulthood in America do not seem like such a big deal.

Some day this war will be over....

Good grief hell no. It'll become another entitlement and I'll have to pay for some stoner to get high.
