I feel sorry for the people losing their jobs but from an environmental standpoint its very good if the coal industry and usage of coal shrinks. Its always very tough to weigh the one against the other.

That's why we should use a portion of the revenue and put it into university grants for clean energy research and developing processes to make coal extraction cleaner. Same thing with nuclear power.

IMHO coal mining and burning can never really get clean enough, especially not since strip mining is a quite common way to mine coal. I do however think part of the revenue should go to university grants for celan energy research. I truly believe that the future lies in solar, wind and hydro power, and fusion. The latest developements in the fusion field is quite exciting and that would be a clean energy resource that practically would last forever.
