this is a discussion within the Poli-Sci Community Forum; As lawmakers struggle to solve the fiscal cliff, they’re also struggling for the right to snack on movie night. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., will make a formal appeal to the Senate Rules Committee in order to allow popcorn ...

Senators to Screen ‘Lincoln’, Seek a Waiver for Popcorn
But the guy has the time to stump for a waiver to allow snacks in the Capitol Visitors Center auditorium for a special screening of the movie 'Lincoln' because they don't allow food. WTF is wrong with this picture?!?! I don't care if you're a hardcore conservative or a bleeding heart liberal, this has to strike you as a complete lack of priorities. This is what governing in America has become. It's been said Nero played the lyre while Rome burned ... Harry Reid orders popcorn while his country goes over the fiscal cliff. How appropriate. ![]() ![]() |

Re: Senators to Screen ‘Lincoln’, Seek a Waiver for Popcorn
I get tired of saying I agree with. I sound like a broken record, but I do agree with you.
Crazy. This is crazy as US Congress having a gym to work out in. A health club. They can get a membership to a health club of their own. They can watch the movie, Lincoln , at any mall's cinema and see how hard the people, teens, some older adults trying to make a little extra work hard at the box office and concessions counter. Is this Captial Screening Room another perk? They do not need any special screening of a movie. Our Congress tells us," Haha, Let them eat popcorn!!!" Popcorn. Do they know much concessions cost at the movies and why? |

Re: Senators to Screen ‘Lincoln’, Seek a Waiver for Popcorn
No, it's the auditorium of the Capitol Visitor's Center where they'll have the screening of the new Lincoln movie for the US Senate. They tried to have it done in the Senate chambers, but they don't allow the Senate chambers to be used for anything except business ... what a concept, eh? Reserving the Senate chambers exclusively for the work of the people ... so let's blow off the legislative state of emergency the country is in & go watch a movie somewhere else during working hours,
Only in America. It's time these guy hold themselves to the same standards of their constituents (us). We'd be fired for pulling stunts like that. |

During working hours? Thats seems a little dumb, ministers over here goes to movie grand openings every now and then but that is always in the evening on their spare time.
