WASHINGTON - Comparing disasters is probably never a good idea because regardless of the size it's a travesty for those directly affected. Therefore, it was surprising, as well as factually incorrect, when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid Friday took to the Senate floor and declared that Hurricane Katrina was "nothing in comparison to what happened to the people in New York and New Jersey" from Hurricane Sandy.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nev., made an unfortunate comparison between Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Sandy. J. Scott Applewhite, The Associated Press Sandy devastated some of the nation's most populated areas, but it didn't come close to Katrina. Hurricane Katrina, and the flooding that followed when federally built levees failed, killing 1,833 and causing more than $145 billion in damage. Sandy has been blamed for 120 deaths and over $80 billion in damage. Reid says Hurricane Katrina was 'nothing in comparison' to Sandy | NOLA.com |

You can tell the difference between Romney supporters and Obama supporters by which side of the check they sign. Romney supporters sign the front of their checks............

Re: Reid says Hurricane Katrina was 'nothing in comparison' to Sandy
Ahhhh, there is nothing like a mouth without a brain. Seems like this species is very common in the Democrat party.
The main reason that Sandy did more damage was simply because there was a greater investment in coastal areas near the point of impact. This build-up took place over decades of storm-free climatic activity. The gulf coast, by contrast, has frequent reminders that it isn't a good idea to build high-value permanent structures right on the beach. This lapse of memory isn't unique to the US. The recent Japanese tsunami reminded that local population why prior generations had built high water tusnami markers in many of the devastated areas. Next time a Katrina/Rita hits the gulf coast someone needs to drag Harry Ried's sorry butt down to a devastated, what used to be Gulfport, Biloxi or Cameron, walk him through the rows of empty slabs where houses once stood and show the dumb SOB what real devastation looks like. |
