Obama pins blame on Republicans for looming cuts, as fiscal hawk warns of 'failed presidency'

this is a discussion within the Poli-Sci Community Forum; The expiration of the 2% "Payroll Tax holiday" is what you all are actually talking about. This went into effect in 2010 and was only meant to last one year, but was extended an extra year. I remember how great ...

Agreed ....btw... that particular tax once was 1%. What is it now again and who was responsible for raising to its current levels?

I can't find where this was 1%. It is 2% from what I see. Links are always welcome.

The temporary tax relief was lifted this year. Are you saying it is more than it was in December 2010?

My sarcasm machine isn't working to well in my previous post:
Obama didn't get praise for the temporary tax cut in 2010, he merely gets blame when it expires.

Some people are easily pacified. They see the 2% increase in their monthly check but do not see the increase in everything else that lowers their spending ability.

Thanks for the chart, it illustrated that the payroll tax wasn't increased from it's previous level. It was restored from where it was in 2010. It sure didn't sound like that in all of the Obama bashing from the previous posts.

Your "History Lesson" was also quite enlightening. I really enjoyed reading it. I'm sure that back when you posted it there were little to no complaints.

Here is the problem with many of arguments from the right, they're not based in reality.

When you look at things without those TeaParty colored glasses, your perspectives change.

I highly recommend it.

Excellent link.... but the point is that it has risen from 1% to what it is today. I was not focusing on bashing Obummer for bringing it back to what it was very recently. If you think about it, there is more revenue generated from this than ever, and they still spend like drunken sailors. It's never enough.... and it never will be. It's not a revenue problem, but a SPENDING PROBLEM. One has to draw the line somewhere. Why don't they actually have a budget and mandate to set aside 10% so that it builds into an eventual endowment? It'd never work as the libs could not stand having all of this rainy day money sitting there accumulating. I think you should introduce a bill whereby none of this should be payroll-deducted, and that folks would be forced to write a check for all the taxes, not just the embedded taxes. Please let me know just how far that gets you?
