Payton's comments

Payton's first order of business will be putting together a coaching staff. He declined to share his thoughts on the Saints' personnel and said he would soon begin work with general manager Mickey Loomis and director of player personnel Rick Mueller in preparation for April's NFL Draft.

"There's a process involved," Payton said. "It's important that you're a part of the process. It's a group effort."

"If you're talking about characteristics in a quarterback, you're looking for guys that are winners," Payton said. "They come in all shapes and sizes. They have to have leadership qualities, and gotta be tough."

"I think smart players, tough players, are the guys that win games," Payton said. "I think the biggest thing Bill has a grasp on is a deep understanding for what keeps a team from winning football games.
"Half the battle is understanding that process before you start."

Payton said he would interview members of Haslett's coaching staff to get a better feel for the Saints' personnel, and he wouldn't rule out retaining some of those coaches who are still under contract with the club.

Insanity is defined as doing the same thing over, over, and over again...and expecting a different outcome!
