ESPN Insider's take on Saints selection of Bush

2. New Orleans Saints
The pick: Reggie Bush, RB, USC
Scouts take: The Saints certainly have greater needs than running back, and trading down appeared to be the right move. However, it would have been the right move only if they could have gotten good value for Bush, who has the burst to consistently turn the corner, an impressive second gear and a freakish ability to make people miss in the open field. With no one ready to break the bank in a trade, the Saints had no choice but to draft Bush.

The good news for New Orleans is that Bush is a good fit for the Saints. With Deuce McAllister on the roster, the undersized Bush won't have to carry a heavy workload, reducing the chances he could get hurt or wear down in his first 16-game season. In addition, Bush is an explosive slot receiver who can keep defenses off-balance by going in motion out of the backfield.

Well, I guess we have a great 2 back tandum this year...at least.

Why do I have this feeling that when the Jets are next on the clock we will hear;

We have a trade. The Saints and Jets trade Bush for D'Brick and the other Jets first round and their third! I really do not understand why the Jets did not select Leinert. 8)

I am so torn about this pick it's unreal. It's true, if we didn't get fair value for Bush we had to take him and we HAVE to keep him. But now we only have one more first day pick, and lots of holes.

I was under the impression that you thought the team doesn't have as many holes as others make it out to be.

Then you were DEFINITELY under the wrong impression. I wanted us to get a LB, C, OT, and DT early in the draft by trading down. You must be thinking of someone else.

Geez a lot of people are giving off a post mortem type of vibe.

People were zo hyped about Payton when he booted AB. They said this guy knew what he was doing. Now people are having doubts?? Let's trust in Payton that he will use Reggie Bush in a way that will put our O on another level and stop looking at all the negatives so much.

Big contract or not, Deuce's days are numbered if he doesn't return to form. If you didn't believe me yesterday you probably can believe it now.

I am happy, Yes I wanted to trade down, but how can one be irked by picking up Bush. If he's half as good of a pro as the hype its a Huge pickup. The saints do have other holes, but its still early in the draft. look for a 2nd round trade to pick up some extra picks and the FO to fill some holes. Don't forget adding bush and brees now makes NO a destination for remaining FA. What lineman wouldn't want to be blocking for Bush. There are also June 1 cuts to add depth and fill holes. I am extremely happy with the direction the organization is heading. Geaux Saints!! Reggie Reggie Reggie
