Well...

Our first true test will be the Seahawks in the first game of the reguler season. If we have a great game against them, I that would be great. It will be hard but If we can stop Shawn Alexanter than we know we have a good defense.

I can\'t wait for the season to start, I\'m going crazy waiting.

I give those power rankings a thumbs up. I was expecting something in the high teens. I guess we might be getting a little respect...it\'s about time.

me and this guy can get along! This is about where I see the saints at the start of camp. I don\'t wan\'t to call it a surprise but i do think the defense will prevail this year and the offense will be most intimidating.

The ofeense will be able to implement new plays like the SCREEN while rejuvinating last years O.

The recognition was overdue. For years Saints teams seems to always be overlooked. Call it lack of respect or whatever you want but truth is the Saints never have, in the past, stepped up to the elite level of playoff winners. I feel this is the year where they do it and go past the first round of the playoffs.
FWtex brings up the screen pass again. This was a major achilies heel for us last year both offensively and defensively. Hopefully this is something that is going to be worked on extensively during training camp this year. If anyone attends training camp and can report on this please advise us all.
The Saints made improvements in speed and depth without question. Did we really get alot of improvement from a talent standpoint? Only time will answer that question. I believe we got better on offense with the additions of Cromwell and Bouman. As for Defense I believe we did improve but not sure as to just how much. I know we got faster and deeper but I am still concerned with our LB\'s and our pass rush. I\'m still more optimistic than this reads though.

Who is Cromwell? Did we sign someone I didn\'t know about?

Come on BC you remember Cromwell ,the Lord Protector of England. His brillant stragety and leadership skills will be a wonderful asset to the team, of course the fact that he has been dead for over 300 years might be a bit of a problem.

#6 sounds like a great point to start, but I also agree that a lot depends on the play of AB.

Also, watch out for the Chargers this year. I think this ranking may not be giving them enough credit.

Yea, Nolan Cromwell from the Rams he was one of the best defensive players in the league in the early 80\'s he was a safety. Went to a few pro bowls and I think he was defensive player of the year once too.

Gumbo, what are you talking about \"The Chargers??\"
Their secondary has more holes in it than the Saints of last year.
They made a good pick up with Boston, and they still have Thomlinson. But other than that, they aren\'t too good this year. They will need at least another year or two to mature and bond.

They\'ve got the Panthers too low.

That defense is gonna come into its own this year. Peppers is gonna lead the league in Sacks. But remember that defense shined last year b/c of the poor offense hence their over blown stats due to being on the field the whole game. Not taking anything away from them, just citing the fact their stats also must reflect the help they received from a poor offense. I think they\'ll finish 7-9 only due to a tough division. If they were in any other division they\'d have a shot at finishing 2nd.
Defense shined because of poor offense? Correct me if I\'m wrong here, but, since the defense was on the field more doesn\'t that mean that should have done worse? Considering that they should have been worn out from being on the field all the time, plus the opposing offense had more opportunites to make plays.

The offense did nothing but skew the stats of the defense in a negitive direction.

Where do I start here. First of all you stated that the defense shined because of a poor offense. I\'m simply trying to note that all a poor offense can do is hurt the overall defensive rankingof a team. If the offense puts the defense back on the field, then it\'s only going to allow more yardage and points to be added to the overall defensive stats.

If your talking about individual stats, then yeah, it would give more opportunites for an individual player to add to his stats, but this does nothing to show that the Panthers defense was overrated. Instead it shows that they would have been even better, if they had an offense that could keep them out of harms way.

The Panthers would be a very scary team if they had an offense that was halfway decent, because the defense could really dominate.
