can any of these step up?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; i know we think of these as scrubs, but i think that is mainly because they haven't really gotten a chance. Do you think when competition opens up that some of these guys can be part of the starters list ...

can any of these step up?

i know we think of these as scrubs, but i think that is mainly because they haven't really gotten a chance. Do you think when competition opens up that some of these guys can be part of the starters list to allow us to let some of the sorrys go of last years starters?
first off Cornerback Usama Young and Anwar Phillips. anawar has managed to stick around for a while now they must see something in him.

next DT, Orien Harris 2nd year out of Miami, Kendrick clancy, Antwan Lake
really hopeful on Orien Harris check out draft scout report of him:Orien Harris has all the potential in the world, and I think he will be a great defensive tackle. Has a nose for the ball and is constantly causing havoc in the backfield. He will make an impact on any team right away and is my sleeper pick. Watch out for this kid. He could be one of the best at his position in a couple years.
NFL Comparison: A young Warren Sapp

now onto Guard: we know Nesbit sucks so instead of spending huge money on a free agent can Tim Duckworth Rookie or Andy Alleman Rookie take over?I've read Time Duckworth would be better for Run Blocking.

Next MLB: remember that guy we drafted last year Marvin Mitchel out of Tennessee, you think Vitt can turn him into a starter to replace Mark. From what i've read on Marvin he is highly coachable, strong against the run.
alright WLB: we picked up Matt McCoy, can joe vitt make him into the starter to take Shanle's spot?check out Matt's draft report:5'11 234 lbs. 4.6 40
McCoy is an extremely intriguing late-Day 1 or early-Day 2 prospect because of his outstanding combination of speed, athletic ability, instincts, toughness and playmaking skills in coverage. If he can keep his weight on without losing speed and fluidity, McCoy could push for a starting WLB. if anyone can make it happen i believe Vitt can.

onto Tackle: really think Zach Strief is going to knock Stinkbomb out of a job. and Bushrod will be a backup

TE: Buck Ortega and Rhonnie Ghent i'm really unsure either can really contribute besides good backup

wr: skyler green and titus ryan either could possibly make it as a really good return man/ back up reciever

what do yall think? any input? see any of these staying? being starters or just backups?

Re: can any of these step up?

CB
Usama Young : He should be our #3 next year and push for #2 by years end. But with M&m's knee he may just start off as at the #2. Jason david will settle in as our #3 and do well there.

Anwar Phillips : Depth material and special teams if he is lucky. Heck if he could not see the field last year I am not sure he will ever.

LB
Marvin Mitchel: Did what he was drafted to do. Special teams and add depth to the LB core. Pass coverage needs improving.

Matt McCoy: Did not pan out in philli. But I like his tough guy attitude. He might be a steal. MLB maybe? Maybe Evans? At least we have improved our LB depth this year.

DT
Orien Harris: The king of the under achievers. Typical UM prospect. If he gets his head straightened out, then yes, he has a shoot to be one of the better Street FA prospect we have ever picked up.

Kendrick Clancy and Antwan Lake: Doing what they should be doing. Good depth for the rotation of the DT. Does the rotation need some younger legs? Yes.

OG
Tim Duckworth: He went from a day one draft pick at the start of the season to an UDFA all in one year. I never did find out why. I am watching to see what he does. I want to see what happens in camp. He maybe great depth material for right now. I am hoping he Andy's spot on the roster.

Andy Alleman: He will be in the rotation next year. He has to be. Can he play center like his college coach said? I am expecting Andy to at least be starting in two years. He takes Goodwin's roster spot for the start of the year.

Nesbit may have lost his job to Goodwin for next year. I will not say that Nesbit sucks. He has done a great job. But he can be replaced. He deserves to cash in on the play of the last two years. But else where.

OT
Zach Strief: would love to see him step up but I would rather see Brown at RT. He maybe our perennial backup for both RT ans LT. Still not sold on him at LT for the whole year. But I really like him. He has surprised me each year he has been with the Saints. So why not do it again next year. I could live with it.

Bushrod: Big question but this may just be our starting LT in year three. Do the Saints throw him to wolves next year and make him a starter

As for the rest? God only knows.
TE: Buck Ortega and Rhonnie Ghent
skyler green and titus ryan

One may steep up but I am not to worried about them to tell you the truth. Skyler has the best chance of them all I guess.
