Three thoughts as the Saints get ready for the Atlanta Falcons tonight:

1) Teams that have dream seasons usually are remarkably healthy, but the Saints already have overcome several significant setbacks on offense.

Left tackle Jammal Brown, a Pro Bowler in 2006 and 2008, won’t play this year. He missed most of the preseason with a sports hernia and was placed on injured reserve after having hip surgery in early September.

His replacement, Jermon Bushrod, never had played a down at offensive line in the NFL before starting against the Detroit Lions in the season opener. Yet, the Saints’ blocking has been better than ever. Their average per carry of 4.6 would be a team record for a full season, and Drew Brees has been sacked only nine times.

Starting running back Pierre Thomas missed all but one play of the first two games with a knee injury.

No problem. The Saints scored 45 points against the Lions and 48 points against the Philadelphia Eagles, setting the tone for a record-breaking year while rushing for an impressive 290 yards behind backup Mike Bell.

Bushrod was another one of the FO really good moves, he was drafted by a group that get the most out of their picks and their FA's. Bell was brought in for short yardage and depth, and we don't miss a beat when PT isn't in the game.
