13-3= wildcard

I was thinking about this today. It drives me crazy that we could end up a wild card at 13-3.A team in the west gets in with 9-7 or even 8-8.It just isn't right. You should get a privilege for winning your division but at the same time it should take more than 8 or 9 wins to do it.

Saintswrath 12-09-2010 06:36 PM

??? I think if we got 13-3 it would me we marched over Atlanta to break the tie breaker which means we take the division.

12-4 with that loss being another loss to Atlanta would set us back, however if we beat Atlanta and lose to Buc's, Atlanta still takes the division if they win out the remainder.

So basically all saints need to do is win out one game at a time.
12-4 or below is a no-no.

If we end up with the same record as the Falcons. They win on the third tie breaker record against like opponents.

Right you are there, but im counting on ATL slipping up soon.. this week coming up is the best chance we have since they are suffering from so many injuries this late in the season while we are pretty much healed up.

Carolina has nothing to lose so they could play a role in determining who win's the division by becoming that trap game for em, and if ATL falls to hawks we steal the division. (only if we beat ATL)

MatthewT 12-09-2010 07:52 PM

I am hoping that all of a sudden the Carolina Panthers become a great football team. The deck is really stacked against the Saints at this point, all the Saints can do is win out and really hope for some big help.

xan 12-09-2010 10:16 PM

Hah! The Panties! You guys kill me! Laughing so hard I got a hernia.

Beastmode 12-09-2010 10:57 PM

I'm going with Carolina helping out. They are playing better and are due for an upset. Atlanta is tapped out on talent. I don't hope for injuries on any team but they would have to remain unscathed the rest of the season. The odds of that are very low. Meanwhile the Panthers and Saints have been adjusting all season.

I like your way of thinking. The Panthers have been playing much better and very well could be an x-factor.

spkb25 12-10-2010 07:49 AM

I think that Seattle game is a tough one for them. In Seattle and third game on the road in a row. Pretty tough

exile 12-10-2010 08:00 AM

It will be a warmup game against Stl or Sea for the wildcard. The issue then is that we may have to go back to Chicago or to GB in the frozen tundra. Then whoop the Falclowns in the NFC Championship game! Now doesn't that sound fun?

TheOak 12-10-2010 08:02 AM

I would not count on Carolina. They have nothing to gain by beating Atlanta. They actually have something to loose by beating Atl...

First Round Draft Pick. If they beat ATL once and go 2-14 they go into a 3 way tie for FRDP.

I meant the Falcons game against Seattle

hitta 12-10-2010 08:35 AM

I've actually been thinking the panthers are the team thats gonna save us from being a 13-3 wildcard for a while. They match up well against the Falcons and honestly think they can shut down their offense. If they can get points some how, I think this they are the best shot left on the schedule. I don't see Seattle beating Atlanta; though having Cole back may help them a ton(it's just how they've played so far Turner would light them up). If the panthers can somehow put points on the board they have a good shot, and to be honest I'm not impressed with the Falcons defense, so thats very possible.

There's not a player or coach in the league that gives a flying rat's kahooty about a draft pick. When they step foot on that field it will be with every intention of doing whatever it takes to win.

darstep 12-10-2010 11:02 AM

They probably would have played better had they been plaing us, the Bucs and the Falcons. Its kind of difficult to plug one team in for another and conclude the result of that match up. Like Saintswrath said, we just have to handle our business and be ready however this thing shakes out.

Players yes. Coaches... don't count on that. It is far too easy to screw up clock management and make a loss look unintentional. And any coach with any sense and a loosing record is thinking about the draft... It does not take multiple seasons to lose a coaching job any more, there are way too many great coaches that are not coaching.

If I am the owner of Carolina, I am looking at next year.... Have been for a few weeks now.

Cory9289 12-10-2010 01:54 PM

I say they lose to the Seahawks. Road game, different weather, Qwest field...it could happen. Those Falcons like it nice and cumfy in a dome.

st thomas 12-10-2010 02:01 PM

if it happens its going to be shawks that will do it. panties are just not that improved and are going for the no# 1 pick

Fox, and his staff, are out next year. They care less about Carolina draft choices than the players do. They are auditioning for new jobs.

Rugby Saint II 12-10-2010 05:55 PM

If Fox really believes he's on the way out then he may throw everything at us and try to finish strong because he's looking for his next coordinators job. I don't think they roll over and give us the game. If it were me I'd be kicking, clawing and scratching to do my best. It's an interview for next years team at this point.

What ever it takes to win... Going down fighting...
So...... Either I was correct or Atlanta is a lot better than we think they are. Carolina laid down the first half... Actually gave them the ball.

107 Yards Passing? Negative 5 yards passing in the first half????

As I said... Do not count on Carolina doing anything to the Falcons but boosting their stats.

Anyway... On to something more interesting. I am not sure I saw the same game that the analysts for nfl.com saw.

"I do not remember this much action"....<----- Scratching head

skymike 12-13-2010 07:45 AM

Im gonna be careful, and not assume we're going 13-3. To do that, we have to beat the Ravens in Baltimore, in the bad weather, vs. Ray Lewis and his parolees.

Then we have to beat the NFC's top team in their house. Mind you they're the top team, because we cant hit a 12 yard fieldgoal.

Then we have to take care of business against the Buccaneers, and you just cant assume in the NFL.

I tell you what, I'd be much less disappointed to go 13-3, and have to be a wildcard, than to actually have Atlanta blow it, and then us not capitalize. A lot of things can still happen, good and bad, and this is, at this point, a high wire act for us.

But you gotta admit, this is fun.

gumbeau 12-13-2010 07:54 AM

I think we will have little to play for Week 17. I think the Falcons probably beat Seattle and we should beat the Ravens and the Falcons. At that point we have the 5 seed wrapped up and any hope of the 1 seed resting on Carolina beating Atlanta in the Georgia dome.

Losing to Baltimore Sunday means the Saints need to win one of the last two to get the 5 seed. If Philly or NYG drop to 10-6 the Saints probably get the sixth seed even if they lose the next three.

UK_WhoDat 12-13-2010 01:47 PM

You know what ASSuME means right?

The way I see it is that Atlanta has got some work to do to win out. And if they don't, then the Saints has got some work to win out. We are clearly NOT in the driver's seat.

Heck, I would love a 13-3 season (with no more injuries please). If it still means wild card then so be it. It is what it is.

I remember when we got a wild card berth on 8-8 (Morten's twice taken FG against the Rams).

The results in post season is what it is all at.

cajun911 12-13-2010 08:24 PM

Unfortunately I think you're right. Unless Atlanta falls apart, I doubt we'll get home field. Even if we do go in as a wild card, it doesn't mean we wont make. I certainly believe we can.

gocowboysgo 12-13-2010 09:15 PM

The Saints can win in Atlanta. Not really a huge deal.

I predict a Saints/Pats superbowl.

Belair57 12-13-2010 10:32 PM

at least if Seattle wins, I will be going to the game to watch us beat the **** out of the seachickens since I live 20 mins from quest...

I'm only gonna say this once...

Ray Lewis didn't kill no mutha frakkin lion!

TheOak 12-14-2010 05:50 AM

There is something going on with Baltimore's Defense:

If Houston can put up 489 yards of total Offense, and hold Rice to 54 rushing.
There is no reason on earth we can not do at least that. We need to stop Rice, and not turn over the ball...

Saints 45 Ravens 10
