Reggie thinks he's a goner

It is hard to take anything from Fox Infotainment seriously.

WVSaint 05-01-2011 12:42 AM

this is where we need deuce to call reggie and give him a reminder of how things work. did deuce freak out when we drafted reggie and say he was gone? no, deuce accepted the help and took reggie under his wing.

its time reggie quits acting like a baby and do the same for ingram. take the pay cut, realize your best year professionally was when you had a big bruiser in the backfield.

Srgt. Hulka 05-01-2011 04:18 AM

I have to agree with Coupique on this. (wait, who said that?). This article is old, right after the draft, so I'm not taking it seriously. Payton has made several statements about Reggie since this was written.

Reggie was a big reason the Saints have had success the past few years. Especially his rookie season. But, he's simply not an every down back and never will be. He's struggled with injuries. And frankly, with Ingram as the clear every down back, and Thomas being more valuable as a third down back due to his superior pass protection skills over Reggie's, Reggie is now the third option out of the backfield for the Saints. My personal opinion is it would be best for everyone if Reggie would move on to a team like the 49ers where he could be the second option in the offense. The Saints could completely take his salary off the books and Reggie would have the chance to be more productive elsewhere.

CheramieIII 05-01-2011 08:16 AM

Reggie needs to simma down now and get his mind right. He's just upset thinking we ain't showing him the love but when he thinks about it he'll comeback to his senses because if we trade him or release him he'll probably end up on a team that is sub 500 and won't even sniff the playoffs for another 5 years.

Saint_LB 05-01-2011 08:41 AM

It is a business. I won't be surprised at whatever happens. I personally love having Reggie on the team, but it is an expensive luxury. My main problem with him is not that he doesn't break every touch to the house, but that he hasn't been available to play enough. He breaks enough when he is playing to make me happy. His presence on the team elevates the status of the team...kinda adds charisma, as Brees and Vilma do.

However, he is in the restructuring process...I think. If he doesn't get down to the right number it would not surprise me if Loomis lets him walk. Like I said...I won't be surprised either way it goes.

I have not been keeping a close eye on the draft or anything else that's going on in the NFL right now as it is offseason and that is just the way it is with me and this CBA thing is certainly not helping. But....

from what I've seen I think the Saints are going to be real good next year if there is a next year. Ingram is a presence and could make Reggie expendable but I am hoping that my fantasy comes true and we keep 'em all. I think the Saints are going to blow people away.

Loomis...I don't like listening to you but you are doing one helluva job nowadays and I hope that all of your moves continue to pan-out the way things have the last few years!

voodooido 05-01-2011 10:33 AM

Reggies gone. Like he said it is a business. They have 4 quality backs without his high priced butt. Seattle will work out a trade and resign him to a lesser contract.

4everSaint 05-01-2011 05:58 PM

I accidentally posted this below in the Ingram's Leadership thread. I meant to go in this one. I guess I was reading too fast and not paying attention to what thread I was on after coming to sit back down. Anyhoo, here it is.

I don't know why Reggie is freaking out. Didn't he say at the beginning of the offseason he would restructure to stay with us?

Also imagine this formation. Ingram and Thomas or Ivory split in the backfield, Reggie in the slot, then of course Colston out wide, then Graham has to be accounted for. My GOD, my head would explode on site trying to figure out who to cover or who the ball was going to. And of course our Man Drew he is taking the snap. SCARY STUFF!!!

saintsfan1976 05-01-2011 07:15 PM

Reggie's decision to take his words to the internet tells me enough.

That was a sophomoric move, at best. I know it doesn't mean anything to him, but he lost some of my respect and I'm sure I'm not alone.

SapperSaint 05-01-2011 07:37 PM

I don't really understand the "Can't believe what FOX says" statement. Reggie DID type that stuff on Twitter. Reggie DOES think he's gone.

Now, for him to do that, shows that he feels he is worth the 11.8 million. Does Reggie have a role to play on this team???? Yes, he does. But not any where near 11.8 million worth. If he wants to pout.... pout and pack your crap.

What did he think....that they would never draft another Good, TRUE running back?

Yep yep. This is all for attention, he knows he is coming back:chef:

QBREES9 05-01-2011 10:35 PM

He'll be back Reggie you ain't going any where

RaginCajun83 05-01-2011 11:22 PM

Reggie is coming back, he's just crying for attention cause he's now just an average slot WR and above average punt returner who will play for less money this year

I can. he's trying to shove politics
on a board where we're perfectly happy to not discuss politics.

Totally agree. His immature response kind of mimicks his sometimes poor decision making on the field - knee jerk type things that are never really thought through. Excusable in the heat of battle, a little harder out in the media even before the credits roll. We all would like to think that there is more to him than that. He's acting like the little kid who gets mad and takes his ball home. I always liked Reggie's skill set and hope it works out where he is still an option, a cheaper option.

ALLSAINTS66 05-03-2011 02:17 PM

Another spoiled little idiot from USC. He and LenDale
White can go cry in their beer together.

saintsfan601 05-03-2011 03:22 PM

Your not going anywhere Reggie.

ur right cajun. all i have to tell reggie is this. COME ON MAN THIS AIN'T USC.

Ashley 05-06-2011 07:03 AM

What he needs to do is get put in as a slot receiver. Give up on being a rb, If anything he can be our 4th back. Hell Devery H. Started our as a rb at lsu, their are many players in this league that switches positions to fit their ability

WHY are you and me the only people in the world who know that. perfect!

and then he can also play CB. Someone tell me why Reggie cant be a cornerback?

Neaux, I'm with you and have posted same.

He'd be a Steve Smith type of receiver who could run; plus, plus...

Get 'em out in space...

He's not meeting lofty expectations; but he did set a rookie record for receptions!

Danno 05-09-2011 08:09 AM

I think he'd make a horrible WR.

95% of his receptions are within 5 yards of the LOS.

He's never played WR before, I'd imagine its not an easy transition.

QBREES9 05-09-2011 08:34 AM

I bet he'll take a pay cut and stay's

Hey, I could have sworn at USC seeing him play corner or safety now and then in a pinch but I could be wrong. His closing speed alone, he would have made a decent CB. Alex Molden made a career out of his closing speed but couldn't do much else. Reggie can also catch decent. This late in his career though, that's a lot to learn and Reggie is known for sticking with what he knows and he also trips over his own feet almost every game.

st thomas 05-09-2011 11:14 AM

payton won't let him walk, not this season anyway. you have to believe that payton is telling bush that we will be going back to the super bowl and does'nt want reggie somewhere on a .500 team being sorry for leaving. stay one more year get another ring then go get the big payday again. yep thats what payton's telling reggie.

Most receptions (even by WRs) are made within 5 yds of the LOS and get YAC.

This is why many people would like to see Reggie in space making those plays.

I don't know about most, but I can guarantee that 95% aren't.

Reggie would be a HUGE bust at WR, IMO.

Cornerback is a thinking man's game - sorry, not a good fit for Reggie.
Reggie can't run through tackles - flip the script - I think he would get run through trying to make tackles.
I'd give him a plus on closing speed, but then after he got there he would have to close.
Let's just keep Reggie a very dangerous option in the offense: on the screen, in the slot w linebacker trailing, and in open spaces at Payton's discretion.
