METAIRIE - Sean Payton remains confident in the moves the Saints have made to improve their defense, even if he wasn’t particularly happy with the nearly 400 yards and five touchdowns the unit gave up in a season-opening loss at Green Bay.

“I wouldn’t want to after Week 1 start trying to evaluate and make grades on, or measuring upgrades on how guys are doing,” Payton said Friday after reviewing video of New Orleans’ 42-34 loss to the defending champs a night earlier.

“We’ve got a lot of football ahead of us and we feel real good about the players we’ve acquired,” Payton continued. “Obviously, it’s always disappointing the day after a tough loss, but that’s kind of where we’re at. We’re paying close attention to the film, we’re going to make the corrections and work hard.”

I still think the Defense is behind, no OTA's, no coaching in the offseason and lots of new pieces. They'll be fine in about 3 weeks more.

There are a lot of single words that I could use to describe my feelings about the D...unsure, sloppy, careless, generous, inconsistent...to name a few...but confident is not a word I could use right now.

Carry on.

Unless you have all world at CB that can hold it’s own in m2m the d-line has put pressure on the QB. With Will Smith out and don’t know why Tom Johnson didn’t play but their presence was definitely missing. I think I saw Ellis get his hands up one time during the whole game. For the most part the Saints corners are small for the most part so big receivers will tough. Better d-line play will equal to better secondary play

We played the defending world champions and made it a shoot out until the end. I wouldn't say this game was a complete let down. Rodgers and Brees can make any D look bad. We will know more next week when we play the Bears. They are looking pretty damn good too!!
