Balance or bust

Yeah since everyone is throwing out theories ..here's one for ya..

BALANCE!

We need to use our RBs which we have and not get the virus..the Rams showed if you stick with the running game it pays off...we panic when we dont score quick and often and unless Drew has protection and the receivers can get seperation...this is what happens..

I have seen it over and over again from this group since 06...look at the 06 championship game...look at 07 ..08 last year...its a trend... when we had balance on O...that would be 09...we won it all...our D is not great but with no help from the offense to eat up some clock....they never leave the field.

I hope we take advantage of our staple of RBs..i love to see Drew light it up...but only when needed...

We better work exclusively on run blocking this week..or it will be the same old story..

If Dallas can break a record with a rookie against the Lambs and we cant even get 3 good RBs going ..then we deserved to lose...Payton needs to have a balanced game plan..and stick with it..:bng:

Agree totally, also is it just me or does it seam the rest of the NFL has figured out how to combat GW's defensive schemes?

Thats a whole other issue...we had 3 gimmie picks yesterday and dropped all three...I think we miss Sharper more than most realize...

Mardigras9 10-31-2011 10:36 AM

Maybe GW needs to find a balance also and tone down the blitzing for a while. Both sides of the ball seems to need balance. Falling into a hole every game is destroying our ability to find balance anywhere. We are in still in a good position overall, but your point of finding balance is a necessity.

CharityMike 10-31-2011 10:42 AM

I agree 100%. We have become so predictable its sad. How many times yesterday did we run 1st then pass, pass punt or pick? Chris would run 1 time and go to the sideline. Pierre one rush and then Darren one rush. How can any of our back get into a rhythm like that?

We are not the only team like this. If you watched the N.E. game, they are the same way. So are the Packers to an extent. Our coach's over game plan themselves sometimes I think. They are so quick to abandon the run like its not even a necessary function.

First off..welcome!..and yes how can RB get any rhythm like that...too many subs..just line up and crack some heads..then air it out...what is so hard to figure out there...why even have a RBs if they don't get used..

IMHO, the coaches are doing the best they can with the talent that they have.
If the Saints don't appear to have balance, it's because of the limitations of the personnel on the roster.

That's how I see it.

So your saying that

We have the best two guards in the league..P.T..Sproles...Ivory..and Ingram and we cant get our running game going?

That's exactly what I'm saying. Lemme say this: I know that the book at the beginning of the season told us that the Saints have the "best two guards in the league", but, reality always trumps the book. They don't look like the best two guards right now, but, not only that: the O Line Tackles are weak. The O Line is weak. If there are no holes to run through, you need an Earl Campbell to MAKE the hole, and the Saints don't have anybody like that on the roster.

Defensively? We know all about the Saints defense. It's not going to win games for you.

So, I'm saying that in my humble opinion, the Saints are in trouble, because they just don't have the horses. They have one Secretariat, and that's Drew Brees. Jimmy Graham is a thoroughbred, and there are one or two others. The rest of the roster has lots of nags.

So, I don't think you'll see the Saints running game get going this season. If they were capable of it, we'd see it already. They aren't capable of it. Just my take on it. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm just judging on what I see now that half the regular season is over.

All that scheme hula-hue is just smoke and mirrors.
No matter how you stack things up, it's still 11 on 11.
Guys have to make plays. Sometimes a play is a good block to spring a runner.
Sometimes its a good throw or an amazing catch, most times just a basic catch.
Sometimes its an open field tackle or hanging on to that INT when it shows up.
The plays players are called on to make, sometimes have a bigger pay out.
But every one of those plays is important in the moment its happening.
We just are not making enough plays, or stringing together enough plays when it counts.
That's the diffference between a SB win and +60 against the Colts,
and a playoff defeat to a team with a losing record and yesterday's debacle.
Guys have to be able to hold their own one-on-one, defend their spot, man-up when it counts.
We are just NOT getting it done.

Haps Biggest Fan 10-31-2011 11:10 AM

When they can't get it done it's because the guy not wearing black and gold is a better football player. It's the personnel that needs to get better. That doesn't happen in half a season.

That wont cut it..

Last wk. Freeney couldn't do anything against us, I know for a fact he is much better than the DE's we faced yesterday. Scheme is everything, mix and match all you want if you don't execute you get your tail handed to you on a silver platter like yesterday. No one on this sight or any where else can tell me we don't have a great not good but great offense they played about as bad as a team could. No excuses can be made just poor, poor play.

I agree..i thought with us playing the worst rush D in the league and Ivory coming back ..we would pound the ball...oh well

halloween 65 10-31-2011 11:44 AM

As for the D we all know it has always been gashed on the run, if it was a paper cut it would not be so bad but 180+ yards thats being cut across the throat to bleed to death, not acceptable from any team especially ours.

a quote from Pat Y today..bout sums it up.

Mystery of the day: Yeah, I know the Saints fell behind and it’s common to abandon the running game when that happens. But the Saints never really used the running game before things got out of hand. They barely ran the trio of Chris Ivory, Darren Sproles and Pierre Thomas against a St. Louis defense that had been having lots of problems stopping the run. And the Saints can’t use Mark Ingram’s absence (due to a bruised heel) as an excuse. Ivory was their leading rusher last season and Sproles and Thomas had been running well this season.

A balanced game plan and STICK with it! Stick with the run that was planned.
It must taste like yuck on Payton's palette.
...and then give him heartburn on the way down.
...and burn like fire on the way out.

Payton needs to give the O-line something to live for (running game).

Maverick2299 11-01-2011 02:50 PM

I think Sean Payton is missed.

Is he? I only say this because it was reported that for the Colts game Carmichael called all the plays. They said Sean would be more involved in the play calling for the Rams game. We ran the ball a good bit in the Colts game. Didn't run it hardly at all in the Rams game. Sounds to me like Sean was very involved for this game hence the no running. Just sayin.

Thank you O-Line and Defense

UK_WhoDat 11-06-2011 03:20 PM

I like busts meself ;)

strato 11-06-2011 03:23 PM

Me 2 as you can see:)

and a running game of course

Marlboro Man 11-06-2011 09:25 PM

I've been saying this since time began. You noticed that on the first drive we were doing well when we ran the ball to start things off then it's like we had a relapse and started throwing the ball all over the place and didn't finish a promising drive with a score. Then it seemed like the coaches (Payton?) realized they gave up on the run in that first drive and recommitted and the game is now history. Hope they learned something.
