METAIRIE, La. ― As the 2011 season has worn on, Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams has watched as his defense has made the same mistake after the same mistake after the same mistake.

And this week, he had a message for those in the secondary study room – get things corrected or prepare to play elsewhere.

“I’m telling ya, you know what happens to repeat mistake offenders in this league?” Williams said. “They go do what you guys do. They go find some other job. So there’s a lot of guys in our room that are getting their resumes ready to go if that happens again. (Because) you don’t do those kind of things, you can’t be a repeat mistake offender.”

To start with a little tighter coverage and some open field tackling would be nice.

The main thing I hate is watching us play 15 yards back while bringing the house and then missing the tackle!!! WRAP UP AND STOP GOING FOR THE STRIP EVERY TIME!!! oh yeah, 10-3 keep up the good work

Perhaps Gregg is reacting to pressure being put upon him for being a repeat offender.

You got that right! I don't know if those blitzes work in practice but he needs to mix it up without (the prevent) rushing 3. I HATE THAT

Looks to me Payton finally woke up and put his foot in Gregg Williams a$$. It's been long over due. Lets see how this plays out!!! That secondary coach has needed 2 feet in his a$$ for some time now and I wish our old secondary coach never left and if ya' don't believe that look no further than the Broncos defense. He is good...

Well Duh comes to mind.

Many of us have been saying somehting similar all season.

Yes we are 10-3 but we need some more consistent play from the defense if we plan on making a playoff run!!

Who is he telling this to? Who are their replacements?

I hate idle threats.

Sounds good to me.... Would love to see our defense clamp down, and get way more 3 and outs.... Would be a great thing to see in the final stretch.... Me and a friend were talking about this last week. It seems these days, you either have a really good offense, and sub par defense, or a monster defense, and a sub par offense, all around the league. I think it stems from the thought that hey, it doesn't matter if we score, our defense will hold them, or vice versa.... I remember the days of both...

The Defensive backs coach leaves, Williams stays - and now we suck in pass coverage.

How's that working out for you Coach Payton?
