Shanle

After seeing all the hate on multiple forums on this guy, I am wondering if he is getting a bad wrap. Obviously the coaching staff is high on this guy or he would not be here. I have read multiple articles where even players of other teams give him props. He has even been recognized by some members of the media as a talent. Where does all this hate come from? Obviously some of you see something in him that warrants him being blamed, but I am wondering if he has been forced to compensate for other players inadiquities which makes him a good scapegoat.

Salary cap starter. Every team has em.

st thomas 01-30-2012 08:03 PM

i don't hate the guy he's just a tadd late on plays or out of place. evidently he's the best we have till someoe proves they belong in front of him. no hate from here. we will see if the new coordinater sees what gw saw or hes done in sainthood.

Euphoria 01-30-2012 08:07 PM

Well the coach who is big on him isn't here anymore!!! That should be the first clue. Second he may no longer be here shortly... stand by on that one.

Beastmode 01-30-2012 08:49 PM

In his prime he was decent. His age however is starting to show. Like st thomas stated, he has been not only out of place on plays, but clearly getting beat. The one pick he had he was beat on the play pretty bad but the ball magically dropped in his hands after he got there. I give him credit though, he was a walk on in college so a lot of who he is has been all heart, desire...whatever you want to call it. Just don't call it physical attributes.

I don't hate him either. I just want a LB core that wants to kill the offense....actually...I want an entire defensive front 7 that want to kill the offense.

We're fans, we don't know what goes on. If the coaches like him they know more then we do. We're fans, so we get to say what ever we want. Coach Payton and his staff know a hell'va lot more then we do. Other wise we would be coaching.

Shanle. He must be doing what they ask of him.

Belair57 01-30-2012 11:54 PM

he came from dallas with SP didnt he?? then SP might be the one telling the coaching staff to keep him around, I dont see any other reason.

He's solid. Starts every game, never misses a game due to injury, plays run well, tackles well. The knock on him is his speed and cover skills, although if you watch film on him, he blitzes well and actually has good closing speed on a qb. thats not Mike Vick like. His initial turn in coverage or first step is his trouble. If he was in a 3/4 D I personally think that would fit him perfect, still not bad in a 4/3 set. I also think he was ask to do to much in G. Williams system and he was not the only one.

WHO_DAT_CAT 01-31-2012 01:06 AM

Also, there are things like, time invested in him in training him for the scheme, and whether they thought they could improve the position in FA. Last year, obviously we needed RBs, badly. Maybe they just couldn't find an equation that worked out to a positive number for SP and GW. I don't know how bad Shanle is or isn't. Greer stood out this year. Jenkins did too -- but less so. Shanle mostly hasn't for the last two -- but I am not as good a observing defensive play as I am offensive play.

The only reason I can come up with why Shanle is still with this team; is the same reason why Les Miles played Jordan Jefferson.

That reason is; I have no freakin clue.

Shanle like Jefferson, does have skill. Both can make great plays. However, when the clutch play needs to be made.... they come up short.

Shanle is getting a lot of hate right now because the winning 49ers TD was thrown right by him. He never made a play for the ball. As we all know it is human nature to blame the person who makes the last screw up. (See the Bartman, CUB's playoff story). Who was at fault for the 9er's loss???? Really, it was the whole team. 5 turn overs, defense as a whole blew donkey that game. But it was Shanle that was seen on TV for the entire Saint Nation to see "Hammering the final nail in the coffin".

How knows, maybe the original post is right. Maybe Spags can show what Shanle is capable of doing. Highly unlikely...but maybe he can do it.
