Calvin Johnson gets 7-yr $132 million contract

If Drew wanted the biggest contract in NFL history, he can forget that now!

Calvin Johnson gets 7 years, $132 million, $60 million guaranteed | ProFootballTalk

Thank God Colston signed first.

73Saint 03-14-2012 11:54 AM

That's insane money

SmashMouth 03-14-2012 11:58 AM

Gawleeeee!

alexonfyre 03-14-2012 12:02 PM

I wonder if this pushes up Georgia Tech's average graduate salary?

darstep 03-14-2012 12:16 PM

It's just stupid.
That's more than an entire team's annual salary - for one guy.
He could slip in the tub or eat a bad oyster.
Some bone head over zealous rookie gets camp happy and ruins everything.
What does that do to your locker room?
It's just crazy!

papz 03-14-2012 12:32 PM

I bet at least 30 million is faux money.

RaginCajun83 03-14-2012 12:44 PM

WOW .... Larry Fitzgerald's contract looks like chump change now

TheOak 03-14-2012 12:50 PM

Another plus for "spreading the ball around" with recievers....

No one reciever gets Calvin Johnson syndrom.

"This looks like a deal that should make both sides happy."
Look into the owners eyes and ask him how happy he is about writing that check.

I hope so, or Drews asking price just shot up quite a bit.

Calvin Johnson's contract effects Drew's contract about as much as my salary effects yours.

I hope his agent thinks that way too.

Funny, they were just discussing how his contract affects Drew's negotiations on NFL network, AND WWL.

Then I suppose you are right, since WWL and NFL Network are correct about everything and never use weak excuses to bring up popular stories.

And message board posters are always right ;)

Well, knowing what I know about the Fords, they wouldn't have written it were they not completely happy with it. They are shrewd investors. This is a huge sign to the fans and the NFL ...

... I can't believe it, I never thought I would see the day ... the Lions are going to make a serious run at a SuperBowl ... <sniff> ...

The historian in me is trying to take over with counter arguments, but I think I'll just let it go. ;-)

Ohh, and yet another one to add to the mix...

Over it! That kind of salary is wrong in so many ways. I think they have gone from stupid to insane with regards to players salaries. We are, IMHO, witnessing the ultimate demise of pro football, this is the beginning of the end. Maybe i am too old school for today's game. Whatever happened to playing for the love of the game. Remembering the days when Johnny U and all other players had off-season jobs just to survive. What makes things worse is most players today cannot manage their "wealth". It is stupid, ridiculous and absolutely f...ing insane. Our priorties in the US are so screwed up . . . see how many of these so called superstars will defend you if America is invaded and our troops, who we owe our way of life to, can barely make it on their wages, or our first responders. I could continue for a while on this rant but it is pointless when we place more importance in a football player than others that are more critical to our daily lives. It is not just the NFL, it is NBA, MLB, PGA, NASCAR and all other over-priced assinine "entertainers" as well. I for one am over it!

SloMotion 03-15-2012 07:14 AM

That was then, this is now ... the problem is the big money professional sports generates. If the players don't fight for their cut, the owners just pocket more. The fans are the ones who pay the price.

I remember the days when players took local jobs in the offseason ... Alex Karras used to bounce at a popular lounge in Detroit and Gordie Howe ran a hardware store (which he eventually bought/franchised), among others ... those were the days, my friend.
