Exclamation Packers, not Saints, raised Kurt Warner’s ire in 2009 playoffs

The Saints may have put a bounty on Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner during the playoffs after the 2009 season, but Warner says it was the other playoff game he played that year — against the Packers — when he thought the opposing team was taking shots at his head.

Warner said on the Dan Patrick Show that in that year’s wild card playoff win over Green Bay, he felt like Packers players were intentionally trying to hit him high. It was actually the Packers who were complaining after that game that the officials missed calls on illegal hits to Aaron Rodgers, but Warner says the Packers were hitting him illegally, too.

But in the next week’s divisional loss to New Orleans, Warner didn’t think the Saints did anything beyond what’s normal.

“I played in a lot of games where they were really trying to take me out,” Warner said. “When I went back and looked at that game [against the Saints] I don’t ever remember thinking it was anything more than a tough playoff game. I don’t remember anything that was beyond the whistle. Even the big hit was legal.”

The Saints did hit Warner, and hit him hard, in beating the Cardinals that week, then they pounded Brett Favre the following week on their way to the Super Bowl. But Warner never felt he was taking unnecessary shots to the head from the Saints.

Packers, not Saints, raised Kurt Warner

Go away Warner! Nobody forced him to become a blocker against 300lb players coming at full speed. Let's explore that for a minute...a stupid act of desperation up against superior physical strength and an uncommon desire to win the game. I wish he would stop coming out and saying it was a legal hit. We already know that from the moment of impact. Start telling reporters you made an awful decision, so awful in fact, he wish he would have never even attempted to block.

What I find funny in all this is that the NFL has yet to talk to Warner or Farve, brilliant move Goddell brilliant. I'm no lawyer but wouldn't it be a good idea to talk to the players that you think the Saints had targeted?

I watched this today. Warner said that he should have been aware of the situation and it was on him. Said a bigger, stronger player made a good block.

Bobby McCray knocked the slobber out of him, what ever happened to Bobby? If Roger is focused on just the the Favre and Warner hits, why has there been nothing mentioned about McCray?

I've watched the play a million times and I still contend that McCray could have hit him MUCH, MUCH harder, but pulled up.

Warner wasn't trying to block anyone!!

He was trying to tackle the Saints defender that intercepted his pass.

A QB trying to make a tackle is like an old lady in a bar fight!!
