Legislature calls on NFL to take another look at Saints' penalties

The Legislature wants the National Football League reconsider the sanctions it imposed on the New Orleans Saints, its coaches and players in the wake of the bounty scandal. On a 28-1 vote, the Senate passed House Concurrent Resolution 50 by Rep. Cameron Henry, R-Jefferson. The resolution passed the House without objection March 23.

The Legislature wants the National Football League to reconsider its punishments against New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton and others in connection with the bounty scandal.
Henry's resolution urges the league to reconsider the penalties imposed, including a one-year suspension for head coach Sean Payton and fines for a handful of current and former players who allegedly took part in a system in which cash bonuses were paid for big hits on opponents. The sanctions also include a six-week suspension for assistant coach Joe Vitt, and an eight-week suspension for General Manager Mickey Loomis.
The franchise was slapped with a fine of $500,000.
"There is widespread public opinion throughout the state of Louisiana and beyond that the penalties imposed upon the Saints are too harsh and should be reconsidered," the resolution says.

Is this just the Louisiana legisla ture? Because if so I can't see that holding much weight, other than that there politicians. Hell I want them to reconsider the punishments and think its to harsh but that doesn't mean it's going to happen.

It holds 0 weight. It needs to be a state law that the NFL broke...violating fundamental rights of employees or something of that nature and force them to get in the ring.

Yeah, nothing in legislature is adopted and passed that quickly.

Must be an election year...

And - LOL - wonder who the ONE person is who voted NO

I diagree. This might hold some weight if the NFL rejects the demands of the legislature. How about an emergency tax and non-compliance penalty levied against the NFL?

Remember, the Superbowl is in Louisiana this year and the legislature can really mess with the NFL. If the governor and the legislature are on the same page, they can give Goodell and the NFL a fat juicy hell on earth.

Just think, the State could double it's profits from emergency compensatory funds from the NFL, so let's see....

HOW BOUT A LITTLE FIRE SCARECROW!

Now lets clearly look at the Possibility..The Legislature passes a bill, which in turn could go to the house, which if has the necessary support could move to the Senate.
If this thing starts flaming up again..THEN Congress may get involved in a Federal Level. Dont be to quick to throw this out.
La Politics is how the Saints landed in NOLA. and THE NFL BECAME THE NFL//Research it..The fact the Huey Long and his buddies controlled the Senate back when the NFL was trying to merge..The played hardball and got what they wanted..a franchise for louisiana and the NFL was allowed to merge. FACT

Maybe you have a point. Perhaps the Louisiana legislature can pass a resolution suspending Goodell for a year with a $10,000,000 fine payable to a louisiana charity, complete with community service on coastal restoration... Or something...

Think it'll work?:p
