I love Drew but do not have the same emotional attachment too him that some of you do,coming from a background in a different sport maybe changes the way I look at things aswell.
In soccer you often find that a star player will be move on whole most see him at his peak.The coaches often see the first signs of there level starting to drop and sell while the price is high IF they have seen the man to replace them.

For me you should always be looking to improve and get younger.Im not saying that time has come yet though.

If Brees signs a 5 to 6-year contract, I'd say that they should definitely draft a future #1 QB in the 2014 draft, so that he'd at least have 2 solid years to sit, watch , and learn behind Brees.

Naturally, there might be league-ready Qbs available in the drafts, but I'm hoping that the Saints won't be in a position to pick such a player in the coming drafts due to them finishing so high up the season before.

If Brees signs a 5 to 6-year contract, I doubt he'll play that contract through, maybe 4 years before he retires - depending of course on the success they'll have during those years and pending any serious injuries.

I see your point, but it would be hard to let go someone like Messi even if he declines somewhat from his current form, and that is about the caliber of a player Brees is when talking about football.

Also, it's hard to argue against any position or player in a soccer team being as important for the success of the team as a QB is to a football team, and that is why it's extremely important to have a superstar QB playing for your franchise.

I think in the event something happens to Drew Chase could do the fill in role for a period of time but he will never be a Brees. At that point you would start looking for a sucessor either via the draft or if you get lucky and pick up someone that has been slighted by his organization. That is what the Saints are doing to Brees now and that is how we got him in the first place.That is how Denver now has Peyton. How many years did it take the Saints to find that type of quarterback like 40 years so the odds are not with you and it is a crap shoot. Old saying if something is not broken don't try and fix it. On the other hand I also don't see anything wrong with having a bit of insurance which is what I think they have with Chase. You are not going to be able to draft the first pick quarterback in the draft and keep Drew at the same time.

Aaron Rodgers sat behind Brett Favre for Three years before taking over. Even though Favre was at near the end of his career after those three years. I like Chase, and I think that should the unthinkable happen and Brees does not get signed, that Chase would be perfectly capable of leading our offense. If Brees does get signed, I would look at using Daniel as trade bait to get a higher pick in the 2013 or 2014 draft to get another top quality QB to sit behind Brees for another three years to prepare him.

It'll be a sad day when another QB replaces Brees. Those elite QB's are exceedingly hard to replace, even when given advanced notice. Simply look at the teams who've had the daunting tasks of replacing Hall of Famers. The Joe Montana / Steve Young successions are rare. Our backups are nowhere near caliber. I sure hope we can find a Drew Brees clone in the making so that he can benefit from Master Brees!

Drew will sign a 5 year deal. I say 2 years in start hunting for a replacement. A young qb with talent to start will not want to hold a clipboard for more then 3 years.

Oh, in 3 years Phillip Rivers little brother Stephen will be graduating from LSU!

The only problem I see is that Drew holds the ball until the last second and then he takes the hit and goes down. Eventually he could take that big hit that finishes his playing time. If he stays healthy we should start looking in about 2-3 years.
