What happened to the Super Dome?
 

When Mercedes Benz bought the naming rights to the Super Dome a lot of folks were upset that it would no longer be called by the name we love. Most folks just agreed that we would always call it the Super Dome.........already it is just refered to as the Dome quite often in the forums. Times change I guess.
Although, the Mercedes Benz Super Dome does have a nice ring to it.:bng:

I have always called it "The Dome". I don't think anything has changed.

I dunno, man. People I know have always called it "the Dome" when saying affectionate things like "the Dome will be rocking" or "we would have won that if it had been in the Dome"or whatever. It's been a nickname going back to the beginning, Dome Patrol etc. "The Louisiana Superdome" was always more like the proper name a TV announcer would say, but normal people just said Superdome or Dome, going way back. And now it's Mercedes-Benz Superdome on TV but nothing has really changed for anybody else, as far as I can tell. I would still say "Superdome" if I was giving an out-of-towner directions on Poydras, "go past the Superdome and turn left on Claiborne, up the little ramp there" or something.

After five Pat O's Hurricanes, mid-day Sunday, the horseback NOPD officer spots you stumbling horribly down the street.

"Where you headed, son?'

Its been "the dome" to me for the last 35 years. Everything else I call by name Astro Dome, Cajun Dome...

Maybe it's because I don't live in New Orleans any more. I call it the Super Dome now.

I live here and NOBODY I know calls it the "Mercedes-Benz Superdome" EVER!
It's "The Dome" or "The Superdome."

They can call it whatever on TV for what anyone cares here. Just sayin'.
We're also used to Hollywood portraying "the Sheriff" of New Orleans as someone who sounds like Boss Hog. It's duly ignored.

What I do like is we have the MOST POSH, UPSCALE Stadium naming-right corporate sponsor of any team in the NFL. Funny how after Katrina people laughed at us for saying the team would ever return. Much less if someone even dare "implied" Mercedes-Benz would EVER be the sponsor of the Superdome on a TEN YEAR deal, or the Superdome would ever open again.... they would have been laughed off the television.

I still call it the Super Dome and I was originally very much against selling the naming rights to MB. Over time though I have slowly changed my mind and kinda like that it is the Merecedes Benz Super Dome now. I look at all the other companies that have bought naming rights and well I'm sorry but none of them quite compare. Lucas oil, Met life and others kinda look pedestrian next to Merecedes Benz.
