Good post. Definitely need a change in the dome. The Crunk song was fine in the dome for the superbowl year, it got the crowd pumped up before kick-off's, even the players would dance on the field. But it has run it's course, time for a change.

Next song: gangsta rap hip-hop crunk dirty south whateveryacallit. The song after that: gangsta rap hip-hop crunk dirty south whateveryacallit. And so on, and so on ... for the love of gawd, I felt like I was at a Falcons game!

Follow me here ... last time I checked, the New Orleans Saints play in the Superdome, which is ironically located in New Orleans, LA. The New Orleans area - and indeed the entire great state of Louisiana - is known worldwide for it's limitless contributions to great jazz, blues, cajun & zydeco music ... why can't we play some of it in the Dome? And didn't we used to???

Not to mention visiting fans. Heck, they can hear gangsta rap hip-hop crunk dirty south whateveryacallit in any city in America.

Oh well, at least we still play "Joe Avery Blues" when the Saints score, but Benson don't dance no more. :)

I think the artists who recorded Second Line is actually Stop Inc, but your point is fan-tastic. They can hear gangsta -rap- hip- hop- crunk- dirty- south- jive- turkey- shoot- yo mothf*** beotch- punk- a$$- hey- lets- all -rob- a- store- and- spraypaint- the- wall- while- borderline- obese- young-women- jiggle- the- fatcells- in-their- buttocks crap anywhere in any city, on every other station, and usually where the rest of us are subjugated to their oppressive BBBBBBB! BBBBBBBBBBB! BBBBBBBBBBBBBB!

I'm ok with Krunk occasionally, esp after scores, but the last thing we should have to hear is crackhouse crap. Honestly, Im not really feeling the metal either. The average fan must be over 30, so why are we listening to teenager music?

I say we have a college band for every home game. Im guessing the NFL doesnt allow them to play except at halftime,. But if I were the supreme dictator of All Football, we would have Southern or Grambling's marching bands jamming out Louisiana flavored music. If we did have
any canned music, it would be a fun selection of retro hits--- but songs
that jam, but appeal to everybody. If you need subversive coolness, go to a Dead Mary Poppins concert. This is a football game.

Totally agree, Mutineer.

I don't know if it is the same in the NFL, but I have been told by a pretty knowledgeable Hornets source that in the NBA at least, the hip hop that they play during the pre-game warm-ups BEFORE the game (at the Hornets games for instance) is requested by the players themselves.

Now I don't like crunk or dirty south music AT ALL but I love the "Stand Up And Get Crunk" song after touchdowns, and I can't believe people here are hating on it....wow, tough crowd! It's one of the things that makes us us. If you are way up top in the terrace, people beat on the metal walls of the Dome in time with that drum fill in the very beginning... It's like war drums or something. It's awesome to watch visiting fans react to the craziness, their faces go blank when they see the Dome go crazy. It will get tired and played out eventually, but not everyone is there yet...it's unique to us, to the winning era we're in, so what's not to love.

If we saw THE face of THE person who makes these decisions, maybe we'd have a better understanding...

Or maybe it would be a total breakdown of understanding!

One thing for sure; this is pervasive throughout the NFL, therefore it rests squarely on the shoulders of Goodell.

In moments I realized something that hopefully doesn't get my Saints Fan Card revoked ... our pre-game music SUCKS! We entered to some boastful gangsta rap hip-hop crunk dirty south whateveryacallit - and that's fine. It's not my thing, but the entire Dome might not dig MY iPod playlist, either.

Don't we owe the folks who visit New Orleans - an economy deeply reliant on the tourism industry - a legitimate "Nawlins" experience when their travels bring them to the Dome?

Ok, y'all can ban me now ...

There is a giant Mercedes Emblem on the dome.... What do you expect?

I do agree... One would hope to hear a little Jethro Tull thrown in from time to time.

First off, man I'm relieved I wasn't the only one ... :)

But - although I did a poor job - I didn't want to suggest that the "Get Crunk" song should disappear or anything. Lord knows, the music I deemed gangsta rap hip-hop crunk dirty south whateveryacallit belongs in the cultural and musical fabric of New Orleans as much as the jazz, blues, cajun & zydeco I mentioned.

I only wanted to make a plea for some diversity - a "gumbo" if you will :) - of Louisiana's varied blends & styles of music. There's so much artistry to offer here that no other region can compare to, we should put it on display.

Ok how about some New Orleans originated music:

Lillian Axe
Louis Armstrong
Better than Ezra
Harry Connick Jr.
Cowboy Mouth
Fats Domino
and throw in some C-Murdah from time to time

New Orleans is a cornucopia of musical origin... Blend it all in... Doesn't always need to be Blues, Rap, or a mix tape from the 80's.

I love 'em all, and could probably add a hundred more. That's all I'm asking for!!!

IIRC, the music was decent in 2006 before games, since then its just gone down hill. Crunk might be overplayed but it gets the crowd to go ape-**** bananas and strikes fear in opposing fans, which adds to the mystique of the dome, any song that does that is ok in my book

Re: Dome Music: A Rant

Another thing to think about...I have no proof of this but I've always felt for a while now that Drew might actually be behind, or at least supportive of, the Crunk song playing after every touchdown...he freaking LOVES those kind of game rituals -- like the beefy cheesy mac, the pregame chant he does with the team, the "Who Dat" thing with the crowd in the Dome, and the way that at the start of the second half of EVERY game in the Dome, he always runs out the locker room and goes jogging all the way to the opposite goal line and plants his feet over the goal line, right there in the end zone. And if you remember, Purdue plays the "Purdue Fight Song" after every touchdown, so I'm sure he got exposed to the idea of a song that plays automatically after every TD score. We don't know -- I'm pretty sure he's not the one who picked the song out, but it would not surprise me one bit if it turned out that Drew had something to do with it becoming a recent Saints tradition.
