Re: Saints plan to hire Ryan as DC

Payton has a plan, bank on it.
I also think if it is Ryan, Payton will keep him in check. Payton, I'm sure, has a bad taste in his mouth about DC's anyway with recent Saint history.

I think the majority of the hate toward Ryan is because of his perceived over the top personality.

That, and the fact that he looks like an aging Thor who lost his powers and fell in love with Beer and Buffalo Wings for 30 years.

Hate to say it but had we swapped defenses with Dallas in 2012 - all players, every position, even Ryan as DC - the playoffs would have gone a lot differently.

Just think.... a Saints defense that does NOT give up 700 yards per game... Drew Brees and the offense could actually do their job instead of having to play god every week by pulling out a miracle. :bng:

So when you end up with the worst Defense in the history of the NFL for the 2012 season... You take anything that is an upgrade?

Hell.. Making Vilma the DC would be an upgrade... We deserve better than just taking anything as upgrade.

Sean Payton was jot just "an upgrade", neither was Drew Brees, Darren Sproles...

We go after the BEST AVAILABLE.

Re: Saints plan to hire Rob Ryan as Defensive Coordinator

I am concerned about Ryan's inconsistency as a coordinator. He's done some very good things and he's floundered at times. In Cleveland it looked like he was on a good track to making them better and the wheels fell off. In Oakland he turned it around to a top flight defense and then watched it slip away again. In Dallas I think he did decent considering injuries.

One constant factor is that anywhere he went he has been at the mercy of an offense prone to turnovers and putting the defense in terrible spots. We would hands down be the best offense he's ever supported. Everywhere else it's been a case of "we have to stop everything to have a hope of winning" to where he can have the luxury here of being more opportunistic, aggressive and knowing we have an offense capable of giving him leads or not leaving them in terrible field position.

I am up for giving him the chance. But I always loved Buddy Ryan and the aggressive defense that wanted to beat opponents will away.
