I have to admit it

I'm really excited about the Saints this year. I think this team is the best ones I've seen in NO since Mora. I hope we get into the playoffs. No matter what the team will be exciting to watch.

The Three Things I'm Most Excited About:

1.Deuce is the best RB I've ever seen the Saints have. I've asked all the Saints fans I know and they agree with me. He makes every game worth watching. I'm glad I got him for the BlackandGold.net 3 fantasy football league.

2.Our defensive line is going to spank Mickie Mouse Vick. I was raised to be a good sport, but with Vick its different. He acts like he invented running. And his overhype keeps our Saints (a better overall team the past three years) out of the headlines. I have to admit I was happy when he got hurt last preseason. Not “I'm glad he's in pain happy but “maybe he'll actually have to learn how to play football now happy. Our fast D-Line is going to spank him. I hope I get to see at least one sack in each game. One Will Smith smack sandwich coming right up!

3. We are finally an underdog again. Except for a few random praises (like an article I saw on ESPN yesterday that put us in the superbowl), most sports writers consider the Saints to be an underdog. My favorite saint year ever (when we got that playoff win) we were underdogs. We haven't been real underdogs since. Till now. :D :D :D

LIKE THE POSTIVE THINKING BUT WE WOULD GET SPANKED IN THE PLAYOFFS WITH THIS DEFENSE UNLESS A MAJOR TRADE HAPPENS

I won\'t be overly-excited about the Saints unless it is the end of regulation of week 18 (or 19 if they receive a playoff bye) and they have another playoff win under their belt. Then I can start getting excited about a possible NFC championship. I\'d consider that a successful season if they make the Super Bowl or not.

I repectfully ask that you bring a fact or three to the table to substantiate your screaming rants. Please.

I\'ll do the same. The defense is better this year. And may be good enough. Some indicators:

1) A 20 YPG improvement in the rush defense over last year\'s regular season. Still not good enough (118 YPG) but shows improvement.

2) The new DL coach, John Pease, comes from a Jacksonville defense that ranked #2 against the rush last year only allowing 88 YPG. There will be better containment at the line with the improved focus of gap control at the line.

3) The Saints defense last year was in the top 10 in passing defense. A strong safety core and a potentially improved CB core could keep them in the hunt in this category.

4) The DLine is the deepest in the game, with nearly as much talent as Carolina, and probably more depth. It\'s going to get harder to compete with them deep into the 4th quarter, especially with Pease\'s philosophy to rotate linemen.

5) Everyone right now is healthy. Howard was out nearly half the season. O-lines could key on Grant. Not this season baby. If either Grant or Howard are unavailable, then the super rookie Smith gets to step into the breach. Not many tackles or running backs can handle 4.4 speed coming off the edge.

Look we don\'t need a defense that has to win the game. All we need is a defense that doesn\'t lose the game. A defense that can contain potent offenses and limit their scoring opportunities. A defense that has to do the following:

1) Consistently stop the run.

2) Get after the QB.

3) Limit big plays. Make the offense try to march down the field instead of giving up the long ball running or passing.

4) Get off the field. I really don\'t care much if the defense gives up 30 or 40 yards in a drive. But on that critical 3rd down when you absolutely have to make the play, make it.

Now will our defense do all of these things consistently? I don\'t know. Do they have the potential to do this. I think so.

And let\'s not even get into the discussion of the fact that our best defensive weapon is our offense. If they can dictate and control the game, it\'ll make the defense\'s life a lot easier.

Super Bowl Championships: New Orleans Saints:1, Carolina:0, Atlanta Chokers: STILL ZERO

Only Atlanta choked in an unchokable situation... Life is definitely good.

1. What is with these dudes with the all caps? Where the heck did they come from? More importantly though, why is anyone responding to these guys. Eventually, they\'ll get bored and go to bed.

2. I think every year it is worth while to get excited about our team. Certainly there is a lot of hype, but that\'s cool with me. I don\'t think we\'re a SB team, but I think we can turn some heads this year. It should be fun to watch our WR corps scare opposing secondaries and our DLine to shred a few QBs! I can\'t wait.
