He has not signed with Cleveland yet. Kind of like the Nnamdi situation... just got to wait and see how this plays out.

I understand the guy is looking for the coin, but if someone outbids us for they can have him. Yes Butler has tremendous upside but he needs to realize that he hasn't been a full-time starter. If he's going to be over paid, I hope its not by us.

We've missed out on much better FA's before. I'm not sweating Butler.

If cleveland didnt sign him it kinda makes you wonder how much he really is asking for

True, or if there really are some medical concerns.

Can you blame the guy? A back up to this point and he looks as if he has options. If it is a bidding war we have very little chance to win his services.

The New Orleans Saints and Cleveland Browns both failed to lock up Victor Butler after putting the free-agent outside linebacker through a physical.

Now a third team with a defense transitioning to the 3-4 scheme has come calling. The next stop on the Butler tour is Philadelphia to visit the Eagles, The Plain Dealer reported Monday.

Ever notice how some folk have a real hard time taking a hint? Then again, he could be ready for a breakout season....

Obviously the young man views himself as a starter, but it appears teams are offering back-up money.

I won't slam the guy for trying, he has confidence in his abilities. I like that. I hope he ends up choosing us.

I wonder if his agent is the problem moreso than Butler?

IMO the agent is always the problem, with any player.....the bigger the contract the more his 10-15% will be.

Victor Butler leaves Philly - No Contract offer

Victor Butler - Dallas Cowboys - 2013 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com

Free agent OLB Victor Butler left his Eagles visit without a contract, but the sides have "mutual interest" in getting a deal done.

Butler's visit to contract ratio is now 0:4, suggesting his asking price simply isn't in line with his market value. With no other trips currently scheduled, however, it's possible he's on the verge of finally making a decision.

Well his cards are on the table now, the jets who have interest are in the same boat as every one else. So now it's who makes the most sense. And to me it's Pittsburgh, or New Orleans.... my thought is that both teams are offering about the same deal, so then it becomes where do you wanna play....

I think he really enjoyed his visit here. We're closer to a Superbowl than the Steelers are, and he's more likely to excel here that Pittsburgh.

ALL HE'S DOING IS BURNING BRIDGES
he knows he's just trying to pull more money out of the Saints!
BUT THAT MARKETING **** DOESN'T WORK ON MICKEY if anything it's going to close the door not pad the pocket! HE NEEDS TO HURRY UP OR WE'RE GOING TO LOOK ELSEWHERE! #WHODAT_OVER_EVERYBODY!

Re: Victor Butler leaves Philly - No Contract offer

As with any business deal, there is a certain amount of time to get it done before the value of the deal is greatly diminished and one party loses interest.

Surprise. This guy must be a douchenozzle. He's 0-4 because he's asking for more than he's worth.

Re: Victor Butler leaves Philly - No Contract offer

actually that was pretty quick. he got all his offers now. so go home and pick the team. sure he might lose an offer at this point that always the risk in shopping but he is playing it smart.

no rush by either side.
no one is breaking down door.
no one is throwing big money.
its that time in FA once again.

lee909 03-27-2013 12:03 AM

I have no issue with what he is doing.
It's not that often that a NFL player get the chance to look for a long term deal and decide where they want to play for the next 4/5 years.Id be looking at all the options available, who's offering what deal and which city I would like to live and bring up a young family.Id be going round looking asking for a higher price and seeing if anyone will bite while I evaluate my options.

thefifthwall 03-27-2013 12:17 AM

Probably has nothing to do with money.
Should be looking for a starting job. This contract won't be earth shattering but he needs to find the situation that will get him to his next contract in the best shape. He also wouldn't want to sign long term.

Exactly. I'm going to assume the people here who cry foul on what he is doing have never had to really "market themselves" for a job. If you take what you are given the first round, when will you ever progress or find something better?

Re: Victor Butler leaves Philly - No Contract offer

He and his agent clearly like to be wined and dined, and who wouldn't?!

I think it's smart for him to look at all the alternatives to avoid potentially committing to a multi-year offer that'd take him to a place where he wouldn't be happy longterm.

I hope he does sign with the Saints if the FO really feel like he's worth it, but I won't hold a grudge any which way he chooses.

Can't. blame a guy for exploring all of his options. He should have a real good idea of his market value and we should see a decision soon

Re: Victor Butler leaves Philly - No Contract offer

The guy has been in the league 4 years and looking for the first significant contract of his career. While there are other factors he needs to weigh, let's not kid ourselves... it's all about the money. For some reason, he's gotten some hype this offseason and obviously wants and should capitalize on it. For all of these teams, there's a starting job to be had. All are big cities and the only real dump is Cleveland where he's rumored to go to the most.

He's going to the highest bidder.

Too bad...............I thought that Butler would fit in well here. But then again I thought Nnamdi would fit in here too. Bottom line.......wait and see who is willing to pay these guys more than the rest of their suitors.
