I guess I would feel sorry for the guys going to the mismanaged teams, but those teams also seem to overpay for the services rendered along with the rest of their shortcomings.
They overpay because they are desperate... Jamarcus Russell. Russell hurt the Raiders for a while.

The draft doesn't assure success, it assures that, on the margin, the competitive balance illusion can be perpetuated.

Invert the process and I'm pretty sure competitive inbalance will be no illiusion.

I likie it the way it is set up. Balance is the key in football. It gives a bad team an opportunity to turn things around because they get an infusion of talent.
Just imagine the butt whoopings for small market teams by teams like Dallas. Godhell would just love that. I'm surprised he hasn't tried to change that.

Shouldn't the reality be, earn the right to be competitive, and not given the opportunity based on failure?

Greater failure does not equate to greater opportunity the way I am wired.

Have to earn it.

Salary cap leveled the field.

No problems here with teams diving their remaining games. Those teams won't be in the playoffs and nobody is watching those games except avid fans or those of the opposing playoff bound teams. It also gives teams a chance to look at some of their backup players in depth to strengthen trade values.

What about teams that secure a playoff slot and bench starters.

Great discussion OAK!

I think we all like seeing our teams go into the post season as healthy as possible. If a team has dominated then they've earned the right to a breather. However, that can really come back to haunt them too. Off the top of my head, I remember the Broncos the year before they won the Superbowl. Shanahan gave the team the last three weeks off and they came back rusty, losing their first playoff game.

Seeding. If they already secured the best seeding it's the perfect opportunity to strengthen your team by letting backups get experience.

Re: NFL Draft Oder

Ok ill be more specific. Playoff teams that bench starters, lose a game or two in the end. Which changes the who gets in to the playoffs.

I would be pissed if we missed a chance to get into the playoffs as a wild card because a team we were tied with won their final game because a playoff team sat their starters....

There is presently no reason to try and win the final game or two unless a team is undefeated. If you throw in a playoff team falling back in the draft for their loss it changes their outlook.
