The Ivory trade (beyond picks)

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I voted for Robinson, since he did seem to have some potential in the limited time we were able see from him....

Practice squad does count against the cap.

This is what counts: Also to be noted is that we can not go over the cap at all with out penalty.

Top 51 Is only counted in the off season.. Once the season starts it is all 53.
Practice Squad

"Team salary includes the amount a team pays its current or former players under their player contracts. The Salary Cap does NOT include pay to coaches, assistants, trainers, or other team employees. Only the highest 51 player salaries for a team count against the Salary Cap in the offseason while ALL player salaries of a team count in calculating the team total Salary Cap during the season. This includes a player that is on Injured Reserve (IR), Physically Unable to Perform (PUP), and the Practice Squad (PS). Practice Squad contracts are included in a teamís Salary Cap during the season except in certain situations where a practice squad player is signed to another teamís 53-man roster."

If we don't trade Ivory before tonight he might have decent value if somebody goes down in training camp.

Good stuff. I don't thing the 8 guys on the practice squad will even come close to an active role player on the 53 though. IIRC I think practice squad guys make roughly 6,000/week which equates to 768,000 which is roughly equal to two minimum wage players.

I'd rather the Saints sign none of those guys. Save the money, god forbid anyone of importance should go down with a season long injury

Ha!!! I'd rather have Shanle then Ellis. Hell, I'd rather see the Saints sign a watermelon with a hat on then re-sign Ellis.

I throw the ps in because it will be included, not because its large... Even though 700K is about 1/6th, throw in 5 draft picks at 400k a piece and you only have 1.M left. 52-53 will consume that.

Players on IR count as well as who ever takes their place. So we need 1-2M cushion to start the season.

I still think Harper gets jetted before week 1.
