Why is our defense so bad/porous?
 

Seriously. Why, after five years of this coaching staff is our defense still ranked one of the worst in the league? Is it personnel? Are our defensive players, position by position, that bad and so much worse that other teams? Then that leads to talent evaluation. Does that mean our coaches/front office are so bad at evaluating talent that after 5 years we're still bad? Or is it coaching? Are our schemes bad? Can we not adjust correctly, etc? Why is this unit seeming still so bad after this long?

It\'s truly the coaching. A team should be able to have an average defense with average players, if the coach is average and what we have had is bad defense with average players, and terrible coaching.

I think it\'s a mix of average personnel and horrible defensive schemes by a horrible defensive coordinator. Darren Howard and Charles Grant seem to be the only true threats on the defense. The rest are a bunch of (oh-no, here\'s that word again) potential laden players or also-rans. Tebucky, Watson, Smith, Sullivan, Hodge, Harper, Mitchell, and Allen fall into the \"potential\" category. Also-rans include Thomas, Ambrose, Rodgers, Young, etc....I\'m not saying all these players are bad, but on most teams they would be back-ups with the exception for maybe Watson, Smith, and Tebucky.

As for the coaching, no one has called for the head of Rick Venturi more than I have. Hell, just look at my handle. D_it_up!!!!!!!!! As long as Venturi is at the helm, the Saints defense will be no better than average. Wait a sec! They can\'t even get to average with Venturi. Bring someone in that knows what the hell they are doing, and I guarantee that the Saints, with this personnel, could be in the top 15. With a defensive ranking like that and the explosive capabilities on offense, the Saints would be a perrenial playoff team. BRING ON SOME DEFENSE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!!!! :cussing:

Until there is a coaching change our \"D\" will always be porous. I have never seen a coach that actually schemes his players out of the play. Especially deep in the red zone (between 10-yard line to the goal line), he is the only coach I know that stunt players and leave gaping holes in the defense. (See the Seattle game) – Venturi has to go plain and simple and it doesn’t matter how we do, it just doesn’t matter.

I can\'t totally blame the DC, because our LBs are average at best, and DTs ineffective. I can however, blame the DC for constanly dropping T Buck so far back, that he is out of most plays. T Buck is overpaid & often takes bad angles. I was hounded for wanting Sapp. Trufant, also. He and Smoot would\'ve set us at CB for years. We passed on Smoot,though. The Bills wanted a #2. Now, were scrambling to strike a deal for McKenzie. This D needs more leadership.

Haz claimed that no LBs were available, but Claiborne, Spikes and Gold were.

THIS IS TOTALLY COACHING = no matter how you put it. The game today, HAZ is being out coached. The game of football is like chess. The Card’s O-Coordinator versus the Saints D-Coordinator. We got the right players but not the staff. The staff is just not smart enough to beat someone in a chess match – NEW COACHES ARE NEEDED. = tellmehowyouluvdat?

This is exactly the kind of game that makes the Saints a laughing stock throughout the league. I onced wondered why every sports highlight I see shows someone playing the Saints. I haven\'t been this upset about a loss in a long time. Pathetic display of football today.

It can\'t be TOTALLY coaching, when 80% of our D wouldn\'t start for 50% of the teams in the league. Think about it....
