Robert Quin (Rams DE) Bushrod vs Brown

After doing some research I found this item worthy of its own thread.

TO ALL the "man I wish we had Bushrod"... "we lost Bushrod because of Brees"... "Should have never let go of Bushrod" "Drew is getting killed since we lost Bushrod" fans

*Bushrod against Quinn* <- Worst game of season for Bushrod
QB HU - 7
QB Sack - 1

*Brown against Quinn* <- Worse game of season for Brown (48 snaps)
QB HU - 1
QB Hit - 2
QB Sack -2

You are correct on this one and I agree, HOWEVER after the first couple of games I've never trusted Brown in any scenario. Bushrod while overrrated was still a solid lineman and I trusted in most cases. So is this fans complaining after one game or what they have seen thus far? Cause brown has been horrible as a tackle. It's neither here nor there now. It's crying over spilled milk. Let's see if this rookie got what it takes to be an NFL player.

Both are simply mediocre.

Bushrod is a mediocre LT making 7 million per season

Brown is a mediocre LT making just over league minimum.

In Loomis I trust.

bushrod was good because of drew end of story.

brown was not an up grade

i think the rest of the OL is getting off easy on this one. once again way to much push up the middle.

brown is an easy target to make the scape goat

^^ This is why I believe Payton did that crazy move with yanking Brown and shifting Strief over, who apparently hadn't played a snap on that side in years, so suddenly in the middle of a game, with no planning. Payton just couldn't trust Brown with Drew anymore. Zach Strief, whatever people here may think of him or his skill level, Payton knows him, and knows he can trust him. He is a known quantity and Payton knows that Strief gets the "do your job" and "next man up" ethos. It became like a "who do you want in your foxhole" decision.

It's similar to the one or two times when they've put Jimmy Graham out there on defense on a Hail Mary at the end of the game. It's not his position, but at the end of the day, Payton trusts him more than he trusts some backup third string safety, to make a grab or bust a ball up in the end zone.

Oak, you're the numbers guy. Wasn't Brown leading the league in holding calls at one point this year.

The biggest advantage Bushrod had over Brown was that he was a really good run blocker. People forget, but Bushrod was an issue in his first year starting at left tackle too. He eventually turned the corner, but remember that Strief took over his spot for a couple or three games.

You are right but the eye in the sky doesn't lie. Did you ever see progression from brown? Remember he has had starts in others seasons and should have a seasons worth if not more. Some guys have it and some don't. Maybe the light switch comes on for brown, but it won't be in a saints uni.

Penalties are all mental and clearly Browns head was in a funk... This is why I think payton replaced him with Strief. Not looking to get better play against the leagues best DE but to get the same play with out the drive and momentum killing penalties.
