Nick Toon works on receiving skills to score roster spot

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — Saints receiver Nick Toon said he realizes there’s more than one way to earn the quarterback’s trust, his primary goal this preseason.

Wideouts can position themselves in the right places. They can make crafty adjustments on their routes to shake a defender and get open. They can spend extra time after practice working on timing and rhythm.

Yet none do the trick quite like simply catching the football.

“It’s easier said than done, but you just got to go out there and do your job,” Toon said after Monday’s training camp practice at The Greenbrier resort in West Virginia.

His job is something the 6-foot-4, 218-pound Toon did at offseason practices and through four days of training camp. He’s repeatedly gotten open deep downfield as well as across the middle in individual and team drills. In both situations, he’s consistently hauled the ball in, occasionally for scores.

boy ol boy, I hope toon doesn't fall into the world of AA syndrome , there or so many solid receivers on this team.

Colston, Graham, Toon and Coleman would give the team a TALL redzone group. Easy for lil' shorty to see. :)

He's working with the #1s exclusively, I believe...Seems he has finally turned the corner

Let's hope so! So much potential and it would be a shame to see him go the way of Adrian arrington

Not like this year. He looks faster stronger and more focused than ever. From all the tweets I'm reading he's been the most impressive WR we have not named Cooks, and its been really close between those two.

I really hope he makes the team and becomes the player we all have been hoping for. I love it when a guy works hard and finally becomes really good, those guys seldom stop working.

I'll gladly admit I'm wrong if toon shows up for us in a much improved way and I really hope he does

This is the year he can really make an impact for us when our offense is going through a youth movement just not sold on him so far until I see him come through for us in regular season games
