This means another 8-8 season with Leon at the QB position. We\'re hosed.

the proof is in the pudding, we\'ll see. he has a mixed bag of a resume. i\'m just glad it was a change even if it is not fruitful- it was time. i for one was ready for a different poison at least. i know we all watch the saints regularly but i dont ever remember seeing a nfl team which i could so easily read the coming play of so much. not all, but there were a half dozen or so which the alignment and motion always led to the same play- over n over again. i kept thinking: if me, just a fan, not studying film or anything, if i see this, how much more should trained professionals!

sadly, i think there is a strong majority who felt the need for dc change was even greater. hopefully mistuh robisson can be an influence to make changes there.

and the turk! (ya gotta love great player names) if the axiom that pine riders make good coaches then he should be great. he was a great clipboard holder in his playing days. his resume briefly is-
-great career at stanford, fassel qb coach and oc
-9 yr backup nfl career, great kick holder
-92 to 95 bucs qb coach
-99 to 97 cincy radio talk
-98 to 00 bills qb coach
-01 panthers qb coach
-02 coached his son\'s pop warner team
-03 giants qb coach with fassel
i dunno last year

with a big turnaround espn headline can read: \'Sheppard Leads Saints to Greener Pastures\'

So, Sheppard sucks.......... That\'s what y\'all are telling me?

Okay......... But look at it this way............

Brooks is a terrible QB that simply is too stuid to play the QB position.

Quote:

Under Sheppard\'s tutelage, starting quarterback Aaron Brooks has thrown 72 touchdown passes and 39 interceptions in three seasons. Brooks threw a club-record 27 touchdown passes in 2002. In \'03, Brooks threw 24 touchdown passes and eight interceptions to establish a club-record plus-16 differential.
If ya ask me.......Sheppard is a miracle worker.

How else do you explain Brooks setting just about every Saints passing record? Brooks ranks up there with the best of QBs in TD to interception ratio.

It\'s not Sheppard\'s fault that Brooks fumbles. It\'s not Sheppards fault that Brooks smiles. It not\'s Sheppard\'s fault that Brooks has no leadership.

You guys have to admit that Sheppard has an idot to work with in Aaron Brooks and Brooks has put up some impressive stats.

Quote:

Sheppard spent the 2001 season as Buffalo\'s offensive coordinator, helping the Bills finish 13th in the NFL in total offense.
13th in the NFL? That\'s just awful.

I think I\'ll wait and actually see a game before I go passing judgement.

Hey, but that\'s just me. I\'m not nearly as smart as some... ;)

Guess it\'s somewhat official now. Here\'s an article posted on NFL.com:

Saints promote Sheppard to O-coordinator
NFL.com wire reports

NEW ORLEANS (Feb. 5, 2005) -- The New Orleans Saints promoted Mike Sheppard from quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator.

\"Mike is experienced, organized and he has worked with some of the best offensive coaches in the game,\" Saints coach Jim Haslett said.

Sheppard joined Haslett\'s staff in 2002. He has two prior stints as an offensive coordinator -- he ran the Buffalo Bills\' offense in 2001 and worked with the San Diego Chargers during 1997-98. He has also coached with Seattle, Baltimore and Cleveland.

The Saints added former NFL quarterback Turk Schonert to replace Sheppard as quarterbacks coach. Schonert\'s last NFL job was with the New York Giants in 2003. He has also worked with Carolina, Buffalo and Tampa Bay.

\"Turk has played the position and spent years refining the skills of quarterbacks within West Coast offenses similar to what we have had the last five years,\" Haslett said.

Sheppard to replace McCarthy

Came across this on the web. Not much, but it ain\'t much news out there.

Here ya go...

Quote:

Sheppard would get instant respect having been in the league since 1993. He is familiar with the West Coast offense, having worked with Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren in Seattle. Sheppard has experience working with quarterbacks and as an offensive coordinator. He called plays in Baltimore under former Ravens coach Ted Marchibroda when they had one of the NFL\'s best offenses.

Sheppard knows the league and certainly the AFC North. He already has gone against Bill Cowher in Pittsburgh, and there might not be anybody who knows Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis better than Sheppard, who was the head coach at New Mexico while Lewis was an assistant.

He can go back to the AFC if he likes....what about at Sd and the other years at Buf, his offenses ranked near or at the bottom...besides the year they were 13th i think the highest any of his other O\'s rkd. was 25th! At least Venturi has a coordinator that has the potential to be as bad as he is :casstet:
