ESPN writer attacks Saints’ ‘wasting’ of franchise player

It's not an attack when it is true!

“The New Orleans Saints are wasting one of the NFL’s all-time great quarterbacks, likely at the expense of Drew Brees‘ career legacy. Whether the league deserves some of the blame for its franchise-altering punishment in the bounty scandal is a topic for another day. Just know that the toughest opponent Brees must overcome each week is the Saints’ own defense.”

Sando continued:

“Just how bad is it for Brees?

He is one of six quarterbacks with a 70-plus Total QBR score over the past two seasons combined. The other five have won 72.7 percent of their games, posting a 96-36 record. Brees has won just 45.2 percent (14-17 record) despite playing about as well. That is because the Saints’ defense has not just been bad. It has been horrific.”

The Saints wasted their opportunity w Dome Patrol just by keeping Carl Smith as OC in the 80's.

Truth hurts, but nobody on this board should be surprised

Not surprised in the least.

The defense has wasted Brees' talent since 2010.

earth shaking reporting by espn.

then again the hiring of Spags and Ryan were reported as super bowl moves by this same rag.

Sando mentions the "Brees and Flacco effects" and makes no mention of their salary cap gobbling numbers...

Sorry, glad he's our quarterback, but Brees and Flacco got a little too greedy...

Give Brees the Defense that Flacco had and Brees would have about 3 Superbowl rings so far

Give Flacco the defense that Brees has played with and he'd be lucky to win 3 games a season.

Brees has the same number of Superbowl wins as the likes of Peyton Manning, Brett Favre, Dan Mari....no, he didn't win one.

I don't get the point of writing an article like this. Do I feel like we could have and should have won more by now? Yeah, I do. But Drew isn't being wasted anymore then any QB in the history of the game. He's paid (a ton) to do his job. Our defense sucks... So what, should we have not had Drew?

If we hadn't re-signed him, we'd have money for other things, but then this guy would have written how stupid we were for letting Brees go. If you're going to write about this, you better start writing about a bunch of other wasted players.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

Isn't Brees' contract on par with other QBs at his level? Though I agree his contract takes up alot of cap space, the Saints have signed some big names in free agency during this time, but several have been big mistakes. Brees makes the offense. His contract is worth it. If we could sign one defensive player who would make as big an impact on the defensive side of the ball as Brees does on the offensive side I'd be OK with giving him the same amount of money.
