Should we trade Coleman?

My gut tells me that he will not be productive enough if he is not on the field enough. If he cannot be complimentary to the offense, then it might be best to get a extra late draft pick for him if we can. He produced against Carolina but Snead was out that game. He's going to be the fourth target on the team(or fifth depending on Spiller) behind Cooks, Fleener, Snead and that's before factoring in a FA pickup or draft pick. That just might be enough for his mistakes to be glaring and potentially game costing.

I doubt there would be a trade market for Coleman, best option is to let him battle for a job in training camp and see what happens.

Trade our #3 WR? I would say no. He is cheap and can be above avg.

I don't see us getting any value for him in a trade but believe he can bring good things to the offence so no thanks.

What mistakes? Has far as I know the only mistake he's made was to drop a ball in the second Atlanta game. That could and does happen to any WR.

Re: Should we trade Coleman?

If he improves just a little its hard to replace his size. I still think we draft one in the later rounds but I would keep coleman.

Re: Should we trade Coleman?

The only mistake he made all year was dropping a wide open pass, as a ex-wide receiver myself I have to admit that it happens to every single WR at some time.
You start to rush your mechanics because you catch a glimpse of how much open field you have.

I think he'll be a very good #3 receiver for us, he got a chance this year and really started stringing nice games together towards the end.

Re: Should we trade Coleman?

Why? He has shown improvement each and every year. Baby steps but none the less he is moving forward and not taking steps backwards, Besides all we have are 6' WR as it is. An UDFA that is your #4 WR is not a bad thing. I call it a win win

Lets ride this cheap horse a bit longer and see what happens.

Not sure what some are expecting out of BC at this stage of his career. He has a been a productive player for the B&G (he is only 23). Go back and review game film ... he made solid catches against the likes of Tyrun Matthieu, Josh Norman & Trufant's of the world.

I hardly believe Sean Payton is ready to give up on the kid. We shouldn't either.

Re: Should we trade Coleman?

Trade him? Why? He is positioned to step into Colston's shoes and become a #1 receiver. Neither Snead nor Cooks has the length to be a true number one.

Nice thread. haha Dude has no market.

Other teams won't trade for guys like Coleman, they already have their own projects...

No, we shouldn't trade Coleman because Treadwell is going to need a backup...;)

LOL JP,

I hope you don't destroy your flat screen after the Saints select a DT/DE at pick #12 :pissed:.

:pissed:.

Power of positive thinking?!? Figure I'm due ;)

Last few drafts my man crush picks and Saints selections fell out this way...

Wanted Clay Matthews, got Malcolm Jenkins

Wanted Muhammad Wilkerson, got Cam Jordan (And then the Saints went and complicated things by overpaying to draft Ingram in the first round!!!)

Wanted Alec Ogletree, got Kenny Vaccaro

Wanted Jerimiah Attaochu and Donte Moncrief, got Brandin Cooks and Stanley Jean-Baptiste...

And last year wanted Vic Beasley and Stephone Anthony and got Andrus Peat and STEPHONE ANTHONY!!!

Look, I really enjoy participating in the discussion with all the different viewpoints, it's great entertainment as well as enlightening...

Particularly like being able to go back, with record, and show where each one of us were actually right in our opinions and got it right over the so-called experts (well, they're getting paid and we're not seems to be the definition - not what you know but who you know)...

But whether it's gigging each other in playfulness or enjoying the schädenfreude of a fellow fan in melt-down, it's all good...

Re: Should we trade Coleman?

I think my heart would explode if we draft Treadwell. I'm with you JP. I want Treadwell too.

<EDIT>

p.s. NO, we don't need to get rid of Coleman. The same would happen if that were to come true.

Re: Should we trade Coleman?

He's a keeper. We don't have the depth at wide receiver to be able to afford this move. Besides, his value to us is probably higher to us than it is to the rest of the league. He is going to be good for us on the outside routes where he finds seperation.

He never ran routes across the middle like Colston. So, we need to add a receiver to help our new tight end Fleener on crossing routes not trade one of the up and coming players away.

Danno 03-31-2016 02:52 PM

Re: Should we trade Coleman?

We couldn't even get a 7th for him.

And he's got more potential to us than any late round pick we might acquire. And he make about as much as a west coast fast food burger flipper. He doesn't even make the top 51 cutoff in cost.

I think you're underestimating the earning potential of the west coast burger flipper is what I think. :clown:

What if we pick up Boldin or draft a receiver? Who do you think is on the receiving end of that playing time? Coleman. It should be Snead because there needs to be a big receiver to throw but it will be Coleman. That's the thing.

And yes dropping passes happens to every receiver but when that receiver is targeted three to five times in a game that can be a glaring problem. Most receivers get better with more targets. I would not want Coleman to have to share time with another receiver as his size is vital to the saints offense.

Drew is not going to target him more than Cooks and probably Fleener as well.

Re: Should we trade Coleman?

You trippin fam. Brandon Coleman is coming into his own. This past year was basically his rookie season. 30 catches, 454 yards, and 2 TD's is pretty good for a receiver that was used sparingly. I believe he could become our #1. I'd like to see him and Treadwell on the outside with Cooks/Snead in the slot.

Re: Should we trade Coleman?

at this point it is just piling on, but here goes:

what do we get with the 7th rounder that we don't already have with Coleman?
I guess we could draft a cheap project with great potential and size who doesn't know the system, but why bother?

I never said trade him straightup. But maybe in a package. But we will see after next year if he has turned the corner.
