on athleticism, drafting, etc.

i thought it contained one of the best quotes concerning tebucky ever comparing him to john lynch...
Quote:

Jones could beat Lynch on a track all day long, but he probably wouldn't beat him to the football twice in 100 snaps.

mmm, makes the trade for Smith seem even more prescient. The Saints had all the problems in coverage that this article speaks to: poor matchups with strong TE\'s, poor reaction to the ball, constantly out of position, peeking in the backfield. That\'s why, statistically, the Saints were actually worse in pass defense than run defense.

The 2005 schedule has 6 games against teams with very strong tight ends and one of them is the Falcons. If this team is going to move in the right direction (getting beyond 8-8), this was the most important pickup defensively.

It can also be argued that the run defense will improve somewhat due to the improvement in coverage and instinct to the play.

this is why I would rather have football players than athletes....at all positions.

If you want to move Georgia safety and projected first-round draft choice Thomas Davis to outside linebacker, be my guest. But don\'t do it because he ran a 4.65 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine. Davis, a violent hitter who shows no regard for his body, will be an outstanding run stuffer. But he is a sucker for play-action and gets caught peeking into the backfield. He is as lost in a zone as a hillbilly in Manhattan. \"He\'s made more mental mistakes and instinctive mistakes than anyone I\'ve ever scouted,\" says one executive who has been in the business for nearly a quarter-century.

I\'m really thinking he may be a collosal bust..I\'ve just got a very bad feeling about this player.

Well..If we draft him..he will, like any rookie, make mistakes...

The Key is , how fast can he learn?

Alot of sites I read have the guy coming in..starting at wlb for us...then in as many at 2 years..switching to SS...

The real thing to remember here is..the kid has skill..and is the most versatile player coming out...He\'s a big hitter, with loads of speed...What\'s not to like?

I just hope ...I hope we really do end up Drafting this kid..

The Consensus I think has changed over the months as to who will will/ should pursue in the Draft...And I think alot of you guys are wanting this kid too..

Whew! It\'s a good thing we dumped that ball-hawking bum Sammy Knight for the much faster (speed, clearly not mental) Tebucky Jones. We were in major need there.

2001 - Knight: 96 Tackles, 6 INTs, 4 Passes defensed, Pro Bowl.
2002 - Knight: 101 Tackles, 5 INTs, 6 Passes defensed... oh, but he was a major liability due to his lack of speed... nevermind he probably played better ball than in his Pro Bowl season the year before. Let\'s upgrade! And upgrade we did.... to this:

2003 - Jones: 69 Tackles, 1 INT, 4 Passes defensed
2004 - Jones: 101 Tackles, 1 INT, 3 Passes defensed.

Thank goodness for the Saints scouting prowess.

Here\'s another of my favorites:

2001 - Clemons (OLB): 93 Tackles, 13.5 Sacks, 1 INT, 4 Passes Defensed.
2002 - Hodge (OLB): 74 Tackles, 0 Sacks, 0 INTs, 4 Passes Defensed

Wasn\'t this back when Haslett was supposedly making the personnel decisions? Hhmm, wonder why we get out-coached constantly. :)
