I didn't hear it but it all over everywhere that on WWL tonight Hub Arkush form Pro Footbal Weekly said there is a good possibility that the Saints will trade Howard to the Raiders for Woodson. It wouldn't be my choice. I would have Jamie Sharper signed already. But I like it more than doing nothing and paying his salary for 3 DE's. Woodson is wacky and over rated perhaps. Or more, he rates himself higher than he is. And injuries to boot. It would mean signing him for a few years. MacKenzie and he would be a shutdown duo, Smith behind them, wooo. I still dunno if they will ever have to throw if there is no improvement at DT or LB tho. Anyhoo, better to hear that the FO is doing something rather than nothing or more Meier impact players.

Woodson is a big name and would sell tickets, but I don\'t think it\'s the move we need. We need a LB. We need a CB too, but one who is not a distraction and who is injury prone. Keep in mind, Charles is represented by the Poston brothers. They hold out everyone(Orlando Pace, Kellen Winslow, II, etc.). Not really something I think we need to deal with. Too much style and not enough substance IMO. LB-LB-LB-LB-LB-LB-LB!!!!!!!!! :casstet:

Bad move IMO. If we need a corner, get Dyson. Use Howard to get a pick. Plus Woodson wants mega money. Isn\'t his agents the Postons? Worst agents to deal with in the league. Terrible terrible move if true.

I think Oakland will likely resign him...I hope the team isn\'t dumb enough to let Howard go for Woodson alone..we\'d better get a few picks from the deal too...

There have been reports, most recently in USA Today on Friday, that the team has offered a deal that includes a $20 million signing bonus. But no one here is quite sure where that figure came from, since the Raiders haven\'t copped to making any offer, and Woodson\'s agent, Carl Poston, hasn\'t returned numerous calls.

Hence, the hang-up, which began when Woodson stayed away from May\'s first mandatory minicamp.

The good news for Raiders fans? It\'s not like the team and Poston aren\'t in contact.

\"Oh, we\'ve talked,\" Raiders player personnel chief and lead contract man Mike Lombardi said Saturday afternoon. But, Lombardi added, \"There is nothing new.\"

And there likely will not be for another 3 1/2 weeks or so. As long as Woodson accepts the tender offer and reports to work before the 53-man regular-season roster is set by Sept. 5, it will be as if he never was gone.

That\'s because first-year Raiders coach Norv Turner, who said he last talked to Woodson during the week of July 26, has made clear that the starting left cornerback position is waiting for him whenever he decides to come back - today, the end of training camp, even into the season.

i like woodson but I hope this trade don\'t happen. I can\'t think of one reciever in our division that warrant us being put in a cap hole for signing a high price corner.

Mike Sando, of the Tacoma News Tribune, reports the Dallas Cowboys have expressed interest in acquiring DE Darren Howard from the New Orleans Saints. Howard was designated the Saints\' franchise player this year.

Who Do the Cowgirls have that we want, or when do they pick?

Honestly if you were to watch Charles Woodson play, he is VASTLY over rated as is Champ Bailey. For the money these guys are making, NO WAY. I rather have Mike and anyone of the free agent corners who will be HALF of what they make a year. No thanks. The thing that is wrong with this league is after you have one or two good seasons and make it to the Probowl, you are pretty much set to go every year no matter how much the regress the year after.

Watch tape and you\'ll see that Rolle, Law, McAllister, and maybe even Trufant are better than Bailey and Woodson. Bailey chokes in big games and Woodson is flat out :censored: . I\'d even rather have Shawn Springs, Nate Clements, Antoine Winfield, Fred Smooth, Anthony Henry, etc... I can go on and on. The money those two are making is absolutely ridiculous. Way better options out there.

I\'d rather trade howard for picks and get carlos rogers in the first round and then grab some linebackers.

WD52, Cowboys have 1 first round draft picks. Very interesting for us if they are interested in Howard.

That trade intrigues me more then one to Seattle for their pick, but at the same time , If that Dallas team gets Howard there might just be one less playoff spot to chase?

saintswhodi 03-11-2005 09:07 AM

If Dallas gets Howard, they will have he, Ellis, glover and Ferguson on the line. They will rival Carolina as far as line goes, if they don\'t switch to a 3-4. That being said, we don\'t play them next year, and Seattle seems weaker this year than they were last year. We would have just as good a chance to get in the playoffs as we did last year. The difference this year to me is Carolina getting better on the O-line and on defence, plus they are healthy. But if we get at least Dallas\' 2nd first for Howard, we can get some more playmakers on D too, and they will be young.

Quote:

Charles Woodson UFA Raiders – For the first four years of his career, Woodson appeared to be one of the best cover cornerbacks in the league. However, in recent seasons, he has been injured a lot and hasn’t played anywhere near the level that he displayed earlier in his career. When he’s at his best, Woodson can keep up with any receiver no matter how fast or big he is. Woodson has good size and better than average speed and is one of the best athletes to play the position in recent memory. However, he likes to jump routes from time to time and will give up the occasional big play and has lapses and loses his technique and footwork from time to time. If Woodson has his head on straight, he’s certainly capable of regaining top form but he hasn’t shown that in a few years.
no woodson..

I like the cowboys deal-we might can get a first..plus there will be some good cb\'s available in the later rounds that haven\'t been injured the last 3 years, in the league 7 and have attitude problems.

This seems like a deep draft from what I\'m hearing so a 2nd rounder from Dallas would be good. I like the thought of clearing cap space to re sign Horn and Deuce to long term contracts next year. I hope this happens. If and when it does I think we\'d have a decent foundation with keeping those two here along with the other youger talent.

P.S Do you know how long a contract Wil Smith has??? when will he be up??

saintswhodi 03-11-2005 09:17 AM

Howard For Woodson

Will Smith has to have a 4 or 5 year deal since he was a rookie. No worries there. The worry is Charles Grant. That\'s why we can\'t keep Howard cause Grant will be commanding the same money if not more in a year or two.

BreesFN9 03-11-2005 09:20 AM

AHHH I see. Thank you. Hope we sign Grant too. By the way I\'m not a Woodson fan either, I would much rather get Dyson.

there will be atleast a couple of really good cb\'s in the second or third round...but really it\'s not a need right now..linebacker is..atleast to everyone that hasn\'t been hanging with rickey williams.

I\'ll tell you what - if the Saints get Woodson for Howard, I will be very excited.

I agree that CB is not of primary concern right now (or it shouldn\'t be). However, you put Woodson, McKenzie, Bellamy/Mitchell, and Smith in our backfield with the pass rush we\'ve got and all of a sudden this pass defense looks scary as hell.

That SHOULD give us the ability to draft LB, OT, DT, LB, LB, LB, LB, LB, LB, LB, LB, LB... how many rounds is that?... LB, LB, LB, LB, LB, LB, and LB. :)

While I have no faith that the Saints will make the right moves, it\'s Friday so I\'m trying to be positive! A first round OT, with 2nd round LB and DT, and a third round LB, makes this defense really exciting to me. Young and four 1st round draft picks on the d-line. Seriously fierce veterans in the secondary, and a young and talented LB corp that can mature together, makes our future pretty bright to me.

I want picks..I want linebackers and wesley britt in the third round.

If we can\'t afford Howard, no way in hell we afford Woodson. The POSTONS are his agents. The guys that make Orlando Pace get franchised every year until he fired them, and NOW he is working on a long term deal. the guys that had Julian Peterson saying he wanted a signing bonus like Peyton Manning? The guys who said they wanted Kellen Winslow to be paid like the number one pick. A TE???? No matter how good he may go back to being, we DO not want nor can we afford that headache. If it came down to that, i\'d keep Howard. This is just a bad idea.

Blah, blah, blah. All of our talent will be let go or traded within the next 3 or 4 years anyway Whoodi. Accept it. Deuce McAllister in SF. Joe Horn retires a Redskin. Grant signs with the Bucs. Stallworth acquired by Baltimore for a 4th rounder. McKenzie franchised twice then gone like Howard. I bet we keep Brooks though. Point is - take you\'re shot now, you don\'t have much time left. Go for broke, b/c IMO, taking a real shot and failing (4-12) is better than another year of play it safe all the way to 8-8.

These rumors about trading Howard for Woodson seem to be growing. I think there might be some truth to it.

I\'m for the trade myself. Woodson has missed less games in his whole career than what Howard has missed in 2-years.

Seems like a good deal to me.
