Average age of decline for position players outside of QB and RB?
 

It's pretty common knowledge RB is 30. You see it every year where there is an "over the hill" player at 30 getting let go, open for trade, or retiring. Same for QB, I would say she 35-39 range. On average. (Romo this year).

What I would like to know is if anyone knows the numbers for for WRs, CBS and LBs. Is there a "magic number " for this group?

I'm asking because of the Seahawks being open to letting Sherman go, but for a huge price. He is 29, is that "old" by their standards or by histories numbers at the position or a "business" decision to try and just capitalize while they can.

The only thing I can think about is Byrd. I was so excited but... we know how that ended.

Sherman sucks unless he has help over top. If not for his two dominant safeties he would be avg at best.

Same complaint I have about Malcolm Butler

Saints need a youth movement of proven nfl players. raiding teams for players like Klien can be looked at as a redo for all the drafts the saints have had in recent years also.

This is a common move by the Pats.

As for RB age the Pats got my FA target.

Your "magic numbers" are based upon historical perceptions and does not take into account the advancements in training, nutrition and treatment over the past decade. It also doesn't take into consideration the changes made to the rules over the past five years. There is every reason to believe these changes can add five years to QB's and at least two or three years to the average longevity of other position players. This is illustrated by both Brees and Brady mentioning publicly their expectations of playing into their mid-forties.

Simply not true. Even if Richard is "average", he far better than anything we have on our roster at the position.

If you are in to stats, Richard has allowed 12 TD's since he joined the league. Petersen (arguably the best cover corner in league) has allowed 30. He has also been targeted less than any#1 cb over the last 5 years, yet he still leads all #1 Cb's in int's during that time span.

Loudmouth? ... to an extent I would agree, but to say this man "sucks" or "average" is being shortsighted.

What's the average length of employment in the NFL? It's probably that number.

This blow the secondary up mentality is frustrating...

We lost our top two CBs in the first 1.5 weeks to freak injury...

Give them a chance and I think y'all see that the tandem of Breaux and Williams could be a top 8 duo in the league...

And now that the front is being addressed, they won't have to cover for over 4.5 seconds...

Not to mention, the Free Safety mistake was finally addressed, removed and likely replaced...

Sherman is pretty good even at his age. I thought he had a lot of penalties but he really did not last year. He also had 4 picks but I agree, he needs to be in a specific environment to have success.

I would like to have him because it seems like we will be capable of generating pressure, like real pressure without blitzing if we shore the line with a DE. He could make us money in those short potential passing situations which will likely generate turnovers.

The price point though is not going to work. We can achieve the same effect for much less I believe. Really don't want to have him on some 2 year deal where we get rooked again.

I'm with you bro. I don't know who people have been watching over the last couple of years. Richard Sherman is no less than top 5 at his position. Our fans are really picky. I mean yeah, Seattle runs a certain scheme...but isn't it noted that Sean Payton wants to implement that scheme? Who can help implement that scheme better than a All-Pro who's played in it his entire career?

I generally find alot of people shouting they want tough players who will compete. But them players especially at CB/WR etc come with a attitude in the majority of cases and then they dont want them.

If my teams CB is blanket covering a WR and making picks he can talk as much smack as he likes.

This team could have done with a few Richard Sherman/Steve Smith types the last few years. They will go out there and fight and bleed for you.

There is a big difference to them and the attitude Galette had.
