I read somewhere that no other city even bid on it? i'm looking for a link.

That is correct. Seems like that is the way the NFL wants is going forward. It was the same case for 2023. From what I understand its because of two reasons.

1. With only one city bidding they can work together with the NFL a lot mor to ensure that all requirements are met.

2. To avoid embarrassment and hard feelings for the owner of the team and publicly elected officials for the city with the losing bid.

Hopefully Roger will be fired or dead by then and we can try to get home field for a super bowl without getting hosed again.

They changed the host city selection process last year. Multiple cities no longer bid to host against others. The selection committee now selects a single city that they want to be host and asks that city to submit a single "bid" or plan. If for some unforeseen reason they are not satisfied they would move on to their second choice. Both Arizona (2023) and New Orleans (2024) were the first selected under this new process.

After all, losing the 2018 Super Bowl to Minneapolis was a stunner given New Orleans' streak of 10 consecutive successful bids for the game. Falling to Atlanta for the 2019 game was more expected with new stadiums trumping all.
