Now that the Saints 2005 Draft is in the books, the numbers have been assigned for the seven drafted players who will join the Saints.

Top pick T Jammal Brown, who wore #55 with Oklahoma, has been given #70 while second round selection S Josh Bullocks will have #29 and third rounder LB Alfred Fincher has been assigned #90.

The second day draftees: WR Chase Lyman #86, QB Adrian McPherson #5, DT Jason Jefferson #99 and DE Jimmy Verdon #79.

All numbers are subject to change between now and the regular season as other numbers become available due to roster reductions.

NFL rules state that numbers are assigned by playing position. Quarterbacks, punters and kickers are assigned 1-19, running backs and defensive backs 20-49, centers 50-59 (60-79 if 50-59 are unavailable), offensive guards and tackles 60-79, wide receivers 10-19 and 80-89, tight ends 80-89, defensive linemen 60-79 (90-99 if 60-79 are unavailable) and linebackers 50-59 (90-99 if 50-59 are unavailable).

During the preseason, when playing rosters are larger, the NFL allows for duplication and other temporary deviations from the number system, but the rule must be adhered to by all players in the regular season and postseason.
